French immersion (option 2)

Kathie French immersion review

When I first considered an immersion week I was a little unsure – what would it be like to stay with a family that I don’t know? Especially one quite a bit younger than me?

But, I need not have worried - it was actually like staying with friends - but also friends who could help me improve my French and show me a little bit of French culture. Just what I wanted.

After joining the main house, from my self-contained area, my days typically began with a lovely welcome from Eliane and Okami, the gorgeous dog with whom I fell in love immediately.

Conversation with Eliane and sometimes Benjamin begins over breakfast (of yoghurt, croissants, fruit, bread... and good coffee) and continues until midday.

Eliane is very easy to talk to - we covered all kinds of subjects,  both serious and lighthearted - and I learned more French from her as we talked.

Because I had requested some grammar Eliane also built this into the sessions, focussing on the areas she had identified as weaker areas for me, and I found these extremely useful.

At lunchtime we shared a nutritious meal and then there was usually time for a break, when I could do my own thing, catch up on emails, et cetera, before the afternoon outings.

The outings/visits were mostly with Benjamin and included a Vinegary, an Olive farm and a trip to the impressive old town of Carcassone.

All very interesting. Another good host,  Benjamin always took care to ensure that I understood what was written or spoken at the visit and that I was enjoying the experience.

After a full day, Eliane would deliver another nutritious meal to my apartment for me to enjoy before I settled in to watch TV or do my ‘homework’ (which I had willingly agreed to).

I have only good things to say about the week and the two lovely hosts who work hard to ensure a great experience for their guests.

Thank you both x

Jill French immersion review

I've just spent a great immersion week with Eliane: she did everything possible to make my stay both useful and enjoyable.

The first morning was a relaxed conversation where Eliane listened carefully to what I wanted to focus on and we discussed how to structure our time. Each lesson was tailored to my particular interests and goals, and they became progressively more challenging, but always interesting and fun. Breakfast and lunch were opportunities for more conversation, with Benjamin and William both very patient and helpful. At my request, Eliane cooked delicious vegetarian or fish lunches.
I had two lovely excursions: to the caves at Limousis which were spectacular,  and to the Chateau of Pennautier. The wine tasting was particularly enjoyable, offering another opportunity to speak and listen to French, as Yann our host explained the history of the chateau and the process of wine making. Pezens is very close to the Canal du Midi and the Black Mountains, a beautiful area to explore. One afternoon I borrowed the Dutch bike and cycled to Carcassonne along the canal; another day I did a circular walk from Montolieu with views of the Pyrenees.Eliane is a great teacher - I learned so much in my week and got answers to things that had puzzled me for a long time. I now feel much more confident in my conversational abilities and have come away with recommendations for books to read, podcasts to listen to and websites offering grammar exercises, all of which will help me to continue my learning journey.

Option 2

Julian French immersion review

I took Eliane’s option 2 and stayed with Eliane and her family for one week. Any anxiety I had about staying with strangers disappeared as soon as I met them. Eliane, her husband Benjamin and his brother William were welcoming, helpful and patient! The accommodation is clean and private which is an apartment on the lower level of their house.

Mornings consist of a continental breakfast with the family then lesson with Eliane. Stop for a homecooked lunch and then an interesting and enjoyable excursion each afternoon. A delicious dinner is brought down to the apartment each evening.

Eliane is very professional in the way she teaches, while also being approachable, knowledgeable and kind. She will tailor class to your specific needs and level. Eliane and Benjamin accompany the student on some excursions, and again they are always professional but also wonderful and friendly.

I can’t recommend Eliane highly enough. The all experience was great !

Eliane's immersion program was exactly what I needed to break through my hesitation in speaking. Her gentle encouragement, combined with structured lessons and real-life activities, helped me speak more easily and understand faster. The personalized pace, attention to my pronunciation and misconceptions, plus the calm and beautiful surroundings, made the learning experience both effective and joyful. I now feel confident to keep practicing on my own. Eliane's immersion program was exactly what I needed to break through my hesitation in speaking. We enjoyed our stay with Eliane and her family very much, everyone was very welcoming. The accommodations were comfortable and spacious with privacy for two friends traveling together but not wanting to share private spaces.   We chose to do the more limited excursion option and thus did some of our own sight-seeing. If you choose to do this, we recommend having your own transportation. The village of Pezans, nearby Carcassonne, and the surrounding area offered a wealth of activities – there wasn’t enough time in one visit to see it all! We were given many great tips for our own excursions during the week, as well as the couple of days we tacked on for some travel after we departed. Our language learning focused on conversation and listening comprehension, with less work on exercises. Eliane, Benjamin, and William are all good conversationalists (and Elena too!), so conversations felt natural and unforced. We enjoyed the time interacting and speaking with Elena, their young daughter, because speaking to a child in French is not something either of us have the opportunity to do and it unlocks a new skill – it’s just different than speaking with an adult.  The breakfast and lunch provided were wonderful, Eliane prepared excellent food for us at lunch each day and seemed very willing to accommodate special dietary needs (but we weren’t in need of this).  In summary, a good skill-building stay in an area with many things to do and see!

French immersion (option 2)

I spent a week in Pézens on a French immersion homestay, and it was honestly exactly what I was hoping for. From the start, Eliane asked me what kind of experience I wanted – and really listened. I was looking for something relaxed and low-pressure. We chatted back and forth in English and French, and I was able to ask questions in English when I needed to. I always felt comfortable making my attempts at speaking French.

I was welcomed into their lovely young family: her husband Benjamin, their two delightful little girls, and her charming brother-in-law William, who took me on different excursions to nearby sites – all of them beautiful and interesting. One in particular is a must-see: the Limousis Caves – absolutely incredible.

Most of the learning happened through everyday chats, whether it was over meals, on a walk, or while doing something around the village. It felt super easy and personal, and I never felt self-conscious or overwhelmed.

The setting was beautiful – a quiet little village not far from Carcassonne – and I had a great mix of practice time and downtime to explore, read, or just enjoy the slower pace. The food was amazing too (home-cooked and so French). Eliane is a very good cook!

If you’re looking for a gentle, flexible way to improve your French in a real-life setting – especially if you’re not after a full-on classroom vibe – this is such a great option. That said, if you want a more intense, structured learning experience, Eliane is very capable of providing that too. I left feeling much more confident and really grateful for such a personalised and enjoyable week.

Second stay with Eliane. First time in Pezens. Looking forward for a third !

David : June 2025

I thoroughly enjoyed my week with Éliane and her wonderful family. I have to begin with explaining that after leaving, I had to resist the temptation to text multiple times a day as if we were old friends. Éliane and Benjamin and William are all so open and welcoming.

I bicycled in from Toulouse along the Canal du Midi (92km) and stopped along the way for a bowl of famous Cassoulet in Castelnaudary; its town of origin according to Wiki. And her house is just a mile from the canal for easy access to Carcassonne.

Éliane is a wonderful teacher and very accommodating, however I think I hampered our week by trying to focus entirely on conversation for the first couple of days. While that was my hope for the trip, that may be just a bridge too far with my age and hearing impairment. After my giving up the reins, we had some more productive instruction to end the week.

Éliane and I had a wonderful visit to Chateau de Pennautier with Éliane even helping out our new tour guide at times and Éliane getting a special bottle to taste that I was interested in (and purchased).

Her house and the guest accommodations are nonpareil and very private for the students, with a morning walk along the Chemin de Pech Donnât a must. And Pizza Occitane a block away is outstanding. I had some fun snippets of conversation with the owners as we were about equals in each other's language.

This was my first French immersion and could not imagine a better choice. Allez-y !

French immersion (option 2)

This is my second immersion stay with Eliane and won't be my last. :-)

Eliane, Benjamin and William are all excellent teachers. They're patient yet keep the conversation interesting and I very much appreciated that they gently corrected my grammar or sentence construction when I responded. It is so helpful to have a patient, kind teacher.

The cultural experience near Pezens is really exceptional. We visited The Brousses Paper Mill, an ancient mill set in beautiful nature. My French is probably at a level slightly higher than B1 (but definitely not B2 level yet) and I could understand the context of the guide. During the entire tour, William is there to explain a concept or translate a word. The tours are interesting and such a wonderful way to learn!

We also visited the town of Montolieu with its lovely book stores. As a book nerd, it was so fun to be in an entire town that adores books! There are artists and lovely, quaint streets.

We spent a day in Narbonne near the sea to get a taste of a bigger city. It is such a beautiful place. We spent a day in Lagrasse, which is a sweet town that attracts French tourists but is quite unknown to other tourists, which means it was lovely. The tour of the vinegar distillery and the tasting is beyond words. You must do it if you stay with Eliane. Again, the tour guide was very kind and would translate a word if I didn't understand it, but the context was easy to understand. And the vinegar tasting is absolutely fabulous!

Finally, the week topped off with a lovely lunch and wine tasting with Eliane... another highlight of the week. The food at the winery is so good and our wine guide was Yann, the boss, so we had an excellent tasting (and basically just sat and drank fabulous wine and chatted.) It was superb.

They are such a kind family (with Elena and new little Lily!) that I can't imagine learning French anywhere else . Thank you Eliane, William and Benjamin for another great immersion stay.

With love, Kim

Lynne & Elliot : June 2025

It was such a pleasure to spend one week with you and the family. We looked forward to coffee & croissant every morning. Sometimes we gathered in the nook near the window & other times it was at the table on the deck with nature on full display. No matter where we took petit déjeuner we would speak French from that moment until we took a pause before lunch (3 hours or so).  Lunch was delicious and we appreciate that you catered to our preferences. Sometimes Benjamin or William would join in and it was fascinating  for my husband Elliot and me to converse about subjects that would come up. Each of you was patient and would repeat or clarify if we didn’t follow along at first. Sometimes we would write a phrase or word to study it more in detail. We even got to discuss William’s interest in football (soccer)!

My comprehension and speaking ability is more advanced than Elliot’s and somehow you were able to guide both of us as needed to make substantial progress.  For me, French has been a constant with frequent classes at Alliance Française & university. Elliot is an adult learner. I think my speed in thinking in French improved along with a greater percentage of comprehension. With the daily discipline Elliot spoke more often and with greater fluency. I must say, staying in the small apartment in your home made coming to class and meals a convenient treat. We had a car and enjoyed exploring Carcassonne and Narbonne in the afternoons and evenings. Thank you for taking us on an afternoon of cave exploration nearby. We also enjoyed meeting your darling daughters who filled your home with charm. Is Elena still dancing ?

À bientôt et merci mille fois.

French immersion : option 2

I spent a very delightful week with Eliane and her lovely young family. We would start the day together with breakfast, sometimes with Elena her husband Benjamin and brother in law William and of course baby Lili –Ann.

Eliane tailored by learning experience to suit my level and I had a small amount of homework to do each night to reinforce the day’s lesson. Our class consisted mostly of grammar, which I needed but with lots of conversation mainly in French but with some English when needed. Eliane made me feel very comfortable and as I lacked confidence in speaking, encouraged me to have a go and not worry too much about the mistakes.

Eliane is a great cook and she prepared lovely lunches and as I had selected the fully catered option Eliane would deliver a delicious meal each evening to my separate self contained accommodation in their lovely home.

Afternoons were spent discovering the area with William.

I hope to be able to return again, maybe next year.

Mary : May 2025

From my very first email, Eliane made me feel at ease and excited. Her tailored program balanced grammar, real-life conversation, and cultural immersion beautifully. The lessons were engaging and perfectly adapted to my level, helping me gain confidence in speaking French. The charming location and personalized attention made the experience feel like a true cultural retreat. I learned so much in a week—thank you, Eliane!

French immersion

As English retirees now living in Normandie we really needed to start improving our French past the "getting by" standard that we were at. Exploring options, we  discovered Eliane's immersion programme and decided to book a two week stay with her.

Her location in the south was perfect for us, meaning we could combine our principal objective with a wonderful holiday in a part of France that we hadn't explored before.

It was everything that we had hoped for. Whilst being welcomed into her lovely family to share meals and conversation, after our daily lessonswe then had time to ourselves in the spacious self-contained apartment, and had plenty of opportunity to explore this beautiful and interesting part of the country.

We had already told Eliane that we wanted to focus on conversational French, and we were given plenty of opportunities to do this, with the bonus of additional help from family members when they joined us for the delicious meals that Eliane prepared for us.

The lessons were tailored for us specifically, and we learnt new things every day. We really liked Eliane’s approach, mixing conversation with some really interesting and worthwhile exercises. We especially appreciated her letting us talk without unnecessary stops for corrections, and then just picking out the important elements afterwards.

Eliane didn’t have ‘une baguette magique’ she could wave over us, so we didn’t come home suddenly fluent of course, but we are definitely understanding French and speaking it with much more confidence now.

French immersion (option 2)

My daughter and I felt so graciously welcomed during the 2-week immersion course with Eliane in Pezens.

What a sweet family! I really enjoyed or conversation over croissants and coffee during breakfast while my teenager slept late!

Eliane adapted her schedule to accommodate our differing French levels and my daughter’s sleep needs . This made the lessons much more effective for both of us. She is a very patient and fun teacher.

The whole family switched between English and French easily to help include both of us in all conversations. We really enjoyed some lengthy discussions about the differences and similarities between our 2 cultures.

Our afternoon outings with William were so FUN! What a fantastic area of the country to explore! We used the drive time to practice conversation, and he patiently answered all our questions about life in France. He also made some great recommendations for future visits. I feel like speaking the new language is becoming easier now after spending the time with Eliane. We both wish we could have stayed longer! Highly recommended!

I will stay in touch! Thank you for everything.

French immersion (option 2)

I have just spent a delightful week with Eliane and family in Pezens on option 2.

I am 80 and was traveling alone so was very pleased to be met at Carcassone station 4 hours later than planned by a smiling Eliane who made sure I had something to eat and drink before I collapsed into my comfortable bed. The following morning I was introduced to the rest of the family over breakfast Benjamin, William, gorgeous Elena and Lili and of course Okami. At that point I felt not so much a student trying to improve my french as a distant relative who was being welcomed into the family he had never met before. That morning and over the rest of the week it was clear that my French language skills were worse than I thought but Eliane and the others very kindly and patiently repeated any questions and spoke English as necessary. Eliane quickly adapted her lessons to my needs and was happy to speak in English to clarify things and allow me to express myself. We discussed many topics including politics and current affairs and I gained insights into current French language usage and culture and I explained the English equivalent. The trips out every afternoon were varied and always fascinating and I found William to be an engaging and sympathetic guide and a good and careful driver with very good English. Eliane’s cooking was always good and varied. I was lucky to be there for Eliane’s birthday and was delighted to be invited to join them for a meal in one of their favourite restaurants. I could not have asked for kinder or friendlier hosts and I would recommend them to anyone.

French immersion (option 2)

What a delightful and rewarding week with Eliane and her family!

Breakfast and lunch with Eliane, Benjamin, and William, speaking French (mostly) of course! Fun and interesting outings with William in the afternoons following  lessons in the mornings with Eliane. Eliane is an excellent teacher, whether addressing fine points of French grammar or working with us on speaking and listening skills. Eliane met us at our level, but always gently raised the bar to keep us on our toes! Thank you Eliane for our excellent week of April 6-12 2025 chez vous!

Katie & Sarah : November 2024

French immersion (option 2) for 2 weeks

My friend and I stayed with Eliane and her family for two weeks.

My friend opted to do activities without French, as I am the one who is learning.

Eliane was patient and helpful and offered very usefull “tricks” for French. They seem to help but I have some work to do!

The whole visit was lovely. When we weren’t practicing French, Eliane conversed in English proficiently and made my friend’s stay that much better.

Eliane was not able to take us around Carcassonne due to a little upcoming wee human, but her brother-in-law William took on the role and was sweet and kind. His English was also good. He was happy to take us to all the places he’d been before and shared that it never gets old.

Some of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen are here in Carcassonne.

Oh, and the dog. Okami is a beautiful, sweet boy who loves his cookies!

And the food! OMG! Eliane, I am convinced, is secretly a chef because everything she made was fantastic!

Overall, this French immersion at Eliane's was absolutely wonderful and I recommend it highly to anyone considering an immersion stay.

I loved, loved, LOVED it!

I have had a lovely time at Eliane's.

I came here from Seattle with certain goals in mind to improve my French pronunciation, grammar, etc. I also of course wanted to see the area, my First time in the south of France.

Briefly, the accomodations are great, the food is excellent, the company very engaging and pleasant. Most important for me was to be able to discuss the proposed activities with Eliane. She was very flexible and really helped me achieve my goals of visiting the local villages and tour of Carcassonne of course.

In both cases, I couldn't be happier with my language learning ans my tours of the area. Eliane is fantastic !

I recommand Eliane very highly - a great experience with great people!

French immersion at Eliane's (teacher home)

This week with Eliane has flown by.

I expected to have a wonderful time because of all the positive reviews but I didn't know it would be this fabulous.

Eliane, her husband Benjamin, and little daughter, Elena, made me feel so welcome and comfortable.

Eliane was patient with my attempts to speak French and I never hesitated to talk about anything. I never felt embarrassed even though I made so many mistakes, some of which were quite amusing!

Her teaching was flexible and tailored to my specific level and goals.

It was fun to discover we had so many things in common and we never ran out of interesting things to talk about.

I enjoyed our excursions together as well as the amazing fresh gourmet meals she made.

If you are considering a home immersion program, you can have confidence in this one with Eliane.

French immersion at Eliane's home

I've just had a lovely week with Eliane.

Our lessons were excellent. Eliane was very responsive to my requests and aims. I wanted to revise the main tenses and practise them in conversation. Eliane has a pleasant friendly manner and corrected my errors in a light way without detracting from the conversation. She suggested and interesting book that was accessible for my level. I read in my free time and we looked closely at some passages during our lessons. I also wanted to work on pronunciation and Eliane has suitable exercises for that. I'm a language teacher myself and found Eliane's methods to be professional and effective. I feel I made progress in a week.

The excursions to the caves at Limousis and the "Book village" of Montolieu were great. The caves are spectacular, like nothing I've seen before. Montolieu was charming. On both occasions it was good to continue chatting un French. Breakfast and lunch were excellent and sociable, again in French. Eliane provided good vegetarian meals for me.

I envoyed a swim every morning before breakfast and cycled along the Canal du Midi on two of our free afternoons. WE also visited the château of Carcassonne which is stunning.

I came with a friend and we had our lessons separately as we're at different levels. We didn't need a car. All together it was a most enjoyable and productive week. It was a pleasure to meet Eliane and her family. Her husband Benjamin and her brother in law William also helped us with our French and were very friendly.

De bonnes vacances !

I genuinely had the time of my life with the week flying by. If you have a chance to do a language immersion program, I highly recommend that you do it here! N’hésitez pas à faire cette expérience, vous ne la regretterez pas!

French immersion with Eliane

So, I just finished French Immersion with Eliane in Carcassonne in early July 2024.

My wife tagged along with me but not taking lessons but relaxed and did painting. Carcassonne is one of my bucket lists and did’t dissapoint us. All and all, this was a wonderful trip. Eliane’s husband Benjamin greeted us at the Toulouse Airport then drove us to their house in Pezens, small village 10 min from Carcassonne. We stayed at their lower level, with cozy two bed rooms with shower and own toilette. As we had to fly in from US, we were heavily jet lagged but able to sleep ok after quick stroll around this cute little town and had a pizza near by that was recommended by Eliane. It turns out not many places are open on Sunday, so this was very helpful and the owners of this pizzeria was very nice.

After nice French breakfast, lessons began, as I am a beginner French learner, it was not easy with conversations. I could not recognize simple words that I learned because I am not used to French pronunciation. Eliane was very patient and able to get me going. She interject some explanations in English, so I understand which was very helpful. Some morning were pretty rough with jet lag but she seems to sense that and adjust accordingly. Sometimes, she went over some grammar and also pointed out where English speakers make mistakes which is also very helpful. Another thing is that Eliane seems to try to simplify things well and that helps a lot.

Afternoons are the sightseeing time. She has bikes that we can ride on for mini Le Tour de France of ourselves along the Canal Midi bike trail. This is a nice way to get over jet lag and keep active. There is even a cafe for ice cream or coffee. Then, our pick of tour-Cite de Carcassonne and Cite de Saisac. As Carcassonne is famous tourist destination, there are lots of tourists and not easy in a hot summer day but still great place to visit and self guided tour was nice. But, the best part was Eliane’s guide in both French and English. The legend of Dame Carcas!!! I wish I understood better in French though. Next day was for Ssissac Castle/Ruin with William her brother in law, nice kid reminding us of our son. After driving through two cute little town, the Ruin shows up on the little mountain. Not many people, relaxed tour with William!

Then ,wine tasting at the local winery with dinner, another nice dinner with French practice!

All and all, wonderful experience with learning not just language but culture of France with nice balance! Highly recommended to anybody!!!

French immersion with Eliane (option 2)

We have just completed a most enjoyable stay with Eliane and her family in a truly delightful part of France.

We are grandparents from Australia who travelled with our sixteen year old granddaughter. Eliane did a fantastic job creating interesting and engaging lessons for the three of us who are all at different levels in our study of French.

We were glad we chose Option 2 and William was a gracious and knowledgeable guide on our afternoon excursions. Eliane’s catering was excellent and we were very comfortable in the apartment.

French immersion with Eliane

I have had such a lovely week improving my French with Eliane in Pezens. She was so patient with me during our lessons - gently encouraging me to choose the right vocabulary and verbs! All of her family welcomed me so generously into their home. The location of Pezens is lovely- so close to some really interesting historical sites and I loved having the opportunity to borrow one of Eliane’s bikes and cycle along the Canal du Midi into Carcassonne. I highly recommend improving your French with Eliane!

Lauren, Connie & Randy : June 2024

French immersion with Eliane (option 2)

My husband, my friend, and I just finished an amazing week with Eliane, Benjamin, William, and Elena. This was our first visit to the southern region of France and we wanted a stress free visit with time to enjoy the area without being rushed from here to there. Eliane was the perfect host. After sleeping late each morning in our very comfortable private floor of their home, we enjoyed breakfast followed by our French lessons. Eliane is patient, encouraging, and very enjoyable to talk with. She made learning easy.

After lunch, we were lucky to have Eliane or William take us on our daily excursions. Each place we visited was so enjoyable! It was so nice not to have to worry about where to go, where to park, etc. William is fluent in English so he was able to translate for us when needed and he kept my husband entertained while my friend and I practiced our French.

My summary of our week would not be complete without letting everyone how absolutely incredible Elaine’s cooking is. I am the type who gets a little stressed in foreign restaurants because I am not sure what everything is.

The great part about our stay was that EVERYTHING Eliane made was so delicious! We felt like we were eating an expensive restaurant while relaxing on the terrace enjoying the view from their home. Each evening we took long walks in the countryside before going to bed.

I can honestly say this is one of the best, stress free trips I have ever taken. I highly recommend option 2 for your stay because of how easy everything was from the time Benjamin picked us up at the airport to the moment Eliane dropped us off.

Thank you Eliane and your family for a trip we will always remember.

French immersion with Eliane (option 2)

I had the fabulous experience of doing the immersion program with Eliane for a week in June.  Everything I say will be good because, for me, it was 5 star in every category.  I love the way Eliane teaches French.  I am not very advanced and she was so patient and encouraging with me.  I appreciated that so very much.  I loved our own little “apartment” downstairs with a comfortable bed, plenty of juice and water and fruit.  I love her routine.  We chose option #2 and it was the right one for us.  We didn’t have to worry about anything.  At 9 and 1 we ate a fabulous breakfast and lunch with the family.  Between breakfast and lunch we had our lessons.  After lunch William took us on a guided tour each day (we did pay extra for these but well worth it).  I loved how at dinner time she had private time with her family and brought us our dinner on a beautiful tray with gourmet food that she had cooked.  We ate outside on our own patio.  At night we walked and walked and walked and saw something different each time.  Elaine’s family are the kindest and nicest family.  The whole experience was rich, indeed, and I wish for everyone to love it as much as I did. Another thing I loved was that their house was in the country, but still close to neighbors.  It was enchanting.

French immersion with Eliane (option 2)

I had an amazing stay at Eliane’s! As a beginner, I was slightly apprehensive about an immersion holiday, but Eliane and her family made me feel very welcome and were incredibly patient with my very basic level of French.

The student apartment is well-equipped and comfortable, but the best part of my stay was feeling like a part of a French family. A close second was Eliane’s excellent cooking!

The lessons were enjoyable and informative. Eliane is a fantastic teacher – very patient and able to explain things in an easy-to-understand way. I also really enjoyed the visits with Eliane and William. Not only were they excellent company, but there were so many interesting things to see and do, and I got so much more out of the trip because of their local knowledge.

Overall, I can’t recommend a homestay with Eliane highly enough. I’d love to come back!

French immersion with Eliane

Éliane was the perfect host. With Benjamin, the gorgeous Elena, William, and of course Okami, from day one they welcomed me and made me feel like part of the family.

I thoroughly enjoyed the lessons with Eliane. She was so patient and understanding with me and catered the lessons for my level/needs. I had many challenging but rewarding times.

The accommodation was excellent , very private and more than suited the needs of me and my companion.

What an amazing cook! The meals were superb and everyday a delight for me.

Thoroughly enjoyed our excursion also.

I can highly recommend Éliane, who I now consider a friend, for a wonderful French immersion.

Thank you Éliane to you and your lovely family for a delightful time. One week with you was not enough.!!!!

Bisous à tous.

French immersion with Eliane

As a beginner trying to learn French, I did much research on who would be a good fit for me. I knew I wanted an immersive environment, but I also wanted an experience that allowed me to explore and learn the French way of life. With Eliane and her wonderful home and family - I found both.

Eliane is very easy to learn from, as there was no pressure. She has an exceptional understanding of the difficulties new students experience when trying to understand the differences in their native language. I needed this baseline understanding before I could move forward. It has been over 40 years since I was in a language course.

She also provided much needed day to day life skills in France. While this may not seem to be part of learning the language, it’s vital for anyone that is traveling in France. I believe functional capabilities are as important as the language.

While I may know the words, I still need to understand the nuances of the culture and how things are done and approached in France. This isn’t part of the language per se, but for me this was an added benefit.

It should be noted that I attended an additional 3 language training courses in France over the course of 5 weeks. All highly rated and regarded, but Eliane's immersion program was by far the best!

The accommodations were very private and well thought out. Spacious and comfortable. The interaction with Elena, Benjamin and William was always fun, pleasant and informative. It’s nice to be in this atmosphere - feels like home!

I highly recommend Eliane - she’s very professional, intelligent, easy to be with and most of all fun!

French immersion with Eliane

If you are looking to improve your French language skills and learn about daily life in France, I highly recommend a stay with Eliane and her family. First, she and her family are so hospitable and solicitous that you feel like part of the family right away.

I shared two meals with them, a continental breakfast of fresh bread and croissants and the midday meal which was always ample and excellent. Eliane is a great cook!

She is also a patient and flexible teacher. I needed practice speaking and wanted to improve my writing and Eiane helped enormously in both areas. She was particularly good at keeping our conversations going and introducing new topics.

The accommodations and setting were also wonderful. The downstairs apartment has a separate entrance, two fully furnished bedrooms, a living room looking out on their pool, bath and kitchenette.

Pezens is about a 15 minute drive from Carcassonne and there are several supermarkets and other stores even closer.

I spent my afternoons during the week walking along the Canal du Midi and my weekend exploring some of the interesting towns nearby, including Mirepoix and Tarascon-sur- Ariege.

Thank you Eliane for a great experience and all the  improvement in my French!

French immersion with Eliane

My immersion week with Eliane was formidable! Eliane is a lovely hostess and we were most comfortable in the student apartment. I enjoyed lengthy conversations on a great variety of topics. Mostly, I was interested to improve my conversational skills and of course, to incorporate correct usage of French grammar. We conversed about how things are done in France and how the ordinary French person might live their daily life, as well as other topics. Breakfast, and conversational lessons with corrections were followed each day by a full hot lunch - again, accompanied by conversation. Our discussions were complicated enough for me but not so much so that I was lost, so I could respond, ask questions and elaborate on my responses. Eliane took notes, gave me homework about the areas for improvement, discussed my homework errors and so, our time passed by very quickly. Benjamin (Eliane’s fiancée) and William (Benjamin’s brother) were also engaged in some of our conversations! My partner Charles (who was not doing the immersion program) was able to follow the gist during meals because Eliane graciously spoke in English to him or alternatively, I would translate Eliane’s info for him. I chose Option 1 and we selected the Canal du Midi and the wine tasting as our activities. Both were very interesting options and we were lucky with beautiful weather. As well, Charles and I took the opportunity to walk the full route of the Canal du Midi from Carcassonne to Pezens - about 12 kilometres. Fantastic! All in all, a super week of full immersion - nous vous remercions, Eliane!

French immersion with Eliane

After studying French on my own for 5 years, I knew it was time to do an immersion in France. I checked out every immersion opportunity on French Today. I loved what I read on Eliane’s site and her glowing reviews. I knew I wanted to learn from her and explore her little part of France.
Spending 2 weeks with Eliane and her family was just what I needed to take my French to the next level. I learned more with her in 2 weeks than I ever could have on my own at the Intermediate level. She is an extremely patient and knowledgeable teacher. Our time together for meals, lessons, and excursions left plenty of time to have conversations in French.
Eliane and her family are all so welcoming. Traveling alone, they were my family while I was there. Her cooking is wonderful. The accommodations are roomy and comfortable with a kitchenette, 2 bedrooms, study area, TV and even a 3-seasons room and outside space. The town of Pezens is quaint and just steps away from Eliane’s. There are several small stores, pizzeria, and a wonderful restaurant just outside of town. It’s a 15 minute walk to the Canal du Midi also. If you are looking for a little adventure, you can take a short train ride from Carcasonne to any number of small towns and villages and explore for the day. I would highly recommend this if you are spending 2 weeks and have a weekend to yourself in between the 2 weeks. If you like to walk, there are several nearby villages 2-3 miles away that are worth going to. There are also bicycles at your disposal.
Merci Eliane, Benjamin, Elena and William!

French immersion with Eliane (option 2)

I spent a wonderful week with Eliane (and her family) and honestly, I’m not sure who wouldn’t feel the same way, taking private, personally tailored lessons in a warm and gracious setting.

I stayed with Eliane in  February 2024.  Surely spring and fall are more spectacular times to visit the southwest of France – and pretty much anywhere else – but traveling off season has its own obvious advantages:  no crowds, no waiting, no traffic jams.

I’m at some type of intermediate level in French, and one of my major frustrations – in addition of course to my difficulties speaking -- is my inability to understand everyday spoken French. Because I expressed that particular interest, during most of our daily lessons together, Elaine worked with me on listening skills using some short videos (work that I continue on my own at home).  I’m also a huge fan of word games, in both English and French, and Eliane (who likes them too) incorporated those as well when she learned of my interest.

I chose Option 2  (lessons, 5 excursions and all meals), and I would recommend that if it’s available, – especially if you don’t plan on having a car.

Eliane’s meals were all delicious – absolutely excellent French home cooking (plus one traditional Indonesian noodle dish cooked by Eliane’s dad who was visiting from the Netherlands).

Immersing yourself in a foreign language is exhausting, and having a private space like the downstairs apartment in Eliane’s house is a real plus.

All the afternoon excursions (in my case, Lagrasse, Carcassone, the caves of  Limousin, Narbonne and its beautiful beach, and a wine tasting) – were fascinating, in addition to being opportunities to continue to hear and speak French.

Of my five afternoon excursions, three were with Eliane and two were with her brother-in-law William.   Both of my trips with William involved an hour or more each way in the car, plus time exploring without a third-party guide – that is to say, William was stuck with my massacring of French for several hours straight each of those days.   And while he is in his mid-20s, and my mid-20s are far in the rétroviseur, comme on dit, William was very gracious and easy to talk to about lots of subjects, so I got lots of speaking practice and spent two great afternoons with him.

On the days when it wasn’t too late after the afternoon trip, I took two beautiful walks near Eliane’s house, once walking down the main road and turning right along a river, and the other turning left, along a narrow paved road through vineyards and fields, dormant and planted.

Highly recommended, whatever the season!  Merci Eliane!

French immersion with Eliane

(option 2)

It was with some trepidation that my husband and I came to Southern France for a one week French Immersion home stay. What if it was too hard? What if we didn’t like each other?

Of course it is impossible that one would not like Eliane!

And, while it was challenging, wasn’t that why I came?

So, we chose the more complete plan, where 3 meals/day were provided as well as excursions every afternoon.

I must say we were fed very well! Eliane is an excellent cook and the homemade lunches and dinners were wonderful, especially after a morning of learning or an afternoon of exploring.

The apartment was very nice with a comfortable bed. We had everything we needed.

Eliane’s family includes her partner, Benjamin, who also took us on tours, her brother-in-law, William, who is becoming part of the business and the adorable Elena who is a little over 2. Along with the dog, Okami, we felt welcomed into this lovely family.

So, the French? Eliane met me at my level and we worked on parts that were hardest for me.

I have never felt comfortable speaking French, but soon found I could carry a on conversation with her gentle corrections. Eliane was very patient with me as I sometimes stumbled or had to have her repeat a sentence over and over.

I feel like I am ready to take the next step toward fluency after a week with Eliane.

I could not have asked for a better experience!

Merci, Eliane!

French immersion with Eliane

I have had a great week with Eliane. Excellent teacher, great cook with a very friendly and welcoming family.

Eliane is very skilled at focusing her teaching on the individual student’s learning needs. This means I have been able to concentrate on my areas of weakness in French and my confidence has grown considerably.

Away from the classroom I thoroughly enjoyed the excursions she took me on to local tourist attractions such as the caverns at Limousis which are incredible.

Also during these visits I had ample opportunity to continue practicing my French.

In short, top-quality teaching and top-quality hospitality. I hope to return one day.

French immersion with Eliane

I read every one of Eliane's reviews before I committed to spending a week with her. I can tell you that my experience with her and her family is 100% consistent with all of the reviews.

I must add that Eliane is quite versatile, flexible, and ultra responsive to one's own objectives.  She is a dynamo and is super-attuned to one's goals.

Notably, she has mastered English so she knows what we are up against as English-speakers in developing our proficiency in French.  In my case, I sought to participate in the mundane chores and errands supporting her household because I gain perspective from those daily interactions and experiences, and I learn how transactions are handled linguistically.

Eliane supported and fueled my confidence building in spoken French, and arranged a private wine-tasting, and she expertly guided me through the medieval cite of Carcassonne.

During my week with Eliane I tangibly expanded my language proficiency and cultural awareness.  I also availed myself of the pastoral charms by borrowing a bike and riding along the Canal du Midi into Carcassonne.

I will treasure my time with Eliane and her family.

Steve : December 2023

French immersion with Eliane

It’s early Friday afternoon and I am nearing the end of my stay with Eliane and her family in Pezens, France. It has been a wonderful week filled with lots of language practice, beautiful scenery, and great food. Most importantly, however, is the gracious and friendly manner in which Eliane welcomed me into her home. The arrangement of students having the lower floor to themselves and Eliane and her family upstairs allows everyone to have their own space and be comfortable.

Each morning we talk (en Français) while enjoying coffee and breakfast. She gently guides my learning and explains fully the areas that give me trouble. We focus on conversation and pronunciation as was my request, with necessary grammar thrown in when needed. Her husband Benjamin and his younger brother William are there occasionally and will join in as well.

Eliane is also a wonderful cook. Our lunch each day is a home cooked meal with other members of the family joining us as their schedules allow. Dinner is on my own each evening. There is a beautiful restaurant just up the road for those who desire some haute cuisine and plenty of excellent restaurant choices in nearby Carcassonne. Don’t miss the cassoulet at Brassiere de 4 Temps! A couple evenings I was fine with a light dinner of cheeses and meats from the local supermarket, with local wine of course.

Two highlights of my stay were the wine tasting at the local winery and an afternoon strolling the cobblestone streets of Carcassonne with Eliane and sweet Elena.

All in all, I couldn’t have imagined a better environment for improving my French and discovering the joie de vie of this area.

Emily : November 2023

French immersion with Eliane

My immersion week at Eliane’s was great from both a French language and cultural perspective. Eliane met me at my language level and expanded my comprehension and speaking abilities by engaging in a wide range of conversation from daily and family life to complex discussions about legal and taxation systems. She was very flexible, our lessons could be at home, on a walk, or doing daily tasks. Our afternoon adventures were great fun and continued my language learning.

The apartment is very comfortable and furnished with everything you need. I was also able to work remotely in the evenings without issue. Breakfast was great and the lunches were impressive, full meals. The family was often at meals as well and are very welcoming.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Eliane and her family and will come back again without hesitation.

French immersion with Eliane

This November, we went to Eliane and her family for 1 week. An incredible week!

Even though option 2 was only supposed to come into effect in 2024, we asked her if she could make an exception for us, which she did. And we are really not disappointed in having made this choice. Everything was great! The meals, the visits, all the good times spent together.

Eliane is an attentive, patient teacher who knows how to adapt to your needs. I really regained my confidence and she kindly encouraged me to talk to as many people as possible, while helping me whenever I felt the need.

The meals (breakfasts, lunches and dinners) were all excellent. Eliane is a very good cook. Dinners were brought to our apartment every evening, which allowed us to get some rest. It was really perfect for us.

We were also able to spend a lot of time with William who accompanied us on several visits. He is a very kind and considerate young man who helped me find the vocabulary that I was missing on certain occasions. He was speaking English with John and French with me.

Thank you again Éliane, William and Benjamin, this week spent with you was the highlight of our stay in France!

French immersion with Eliane

I’ve just gotten back from a week homestay with Éliane and family and couldn’t be more satisfied. I chose Option 1, which was 3 hours of lessons per day (Monday through Friday) and two afternoon excursions. In addition, Option 1 included breakfast and lunch with Éliane, with an opportunity for more conversation during mealtimes. We had agreed, going into that week, that the main focus would be French conversation; Éliane made clear that she can tailor her courses to the perceived need and the preference of her students . I loved having the opportunity for so much French conversation. Éliane is a patient teacher, humble, and very genuine. Not least, she’s a skillful teacher who will not only guide your steps, but also make you feel very comfortable. It was a joy to meet the rest of the family; the accommodations were comfortable; and I got to discover Carcassonne and its environs. My only regret is that the week went by too fast! Thank you sincerely, Éliane, for having welcomed me into your home ; for having made me feel so comfortable ; and for having guided my progress (with a hand as gentle as it was skillful) towards the goals I had assigned for myself.

Mille remerciements.

French immersion with Eliane

I have just spent 2 amazing weeks with Éliane and her delightful family, at their beautiful house in Pezens.

Éliane provides 2 choices for her students, and I went for Option 2, so enjoyed full board and lots of trips. It worked really well for me!

I wanted to take a French immersion course in France, to improve my conversation skills and my understanding of the spoken language.

This has been one of the best experiences of my life. Éliane is so clever and so kind - a truly excellent teacher and a wonderful companion. It has been a real treat to get to know her and her family,  to eat and chat with them, and to visit plenty of charming places in the local area with them. So much more than I expected!

I've felt relaxed and comfortable in the private accommodation downstairs, and had plenty of time to read French books and watch French TV.

There's a little shop nearby, a boulangerie, a pharmacy - everything you need is a short stroll away.

I highly recommend this whole experience, whatever your level of French.

Thank you so very much, Éliane, for everything!

Xx

French immersion with Eliane

My week with Éliane and her family in Pezens was the highlight of my entire four weeks in Europe! It was such an honor to be welcomed into her home! Had Option 2 been available when I booked with Éliane I would have jumped at the chance to spend more time with her. The apartment is very comfortable, private, and spacious and I thoroughly enjoyed our outings to the winery of Pennautier and village of Montolieu. I also greatly enjoyed the flexibility to cook in a well-equipped kitchen – and the many pleasures of seeking out French ingredients like a local. I also highly recommend the walk/bike trail along the Canal du Midi between Pezens and Carcassonne for quiet beauty and thinking time.

Éliane is an outstanding teacher, gracious host – and an excellent cook! She met me where I was – on a good day level B2 – and in addition to speaking/oral comprehension work, some of my favorite lessons involved phonetics and how to actually make French words “sound” French when spoken by me. 😀

She has a remarkable ability to take complex/advanced grammatical rules I have always struggled with and simplify them into easy to digest principles. She also provided me with excellent resources and notes to take home.

Perhaps one of Éliane’s greatest strengths when working with me was putting me at ease (not an easy thing to do) with patience and a sense of humor that is infectious. When I returned to London I could still hear her as I was still speaking French in my head! She also accomplished something I never thought I would ever see … I became comfortable calling a taxi on the telephone and riding French trains without panicking! I left not only with a newfound confidence in my French but more importantly renewed self-confidence. Can’t wait to return!

French immersion with Eliane

When I told friends and family that I was going to spend a week in an immersion program in France with a French teacher and her family, many asked if I wasn’t afraid to stay with someone I didn’t know. I told them that only someone with a warm and generous heart would choose to open her home and share her life and family with students from around the globe. I was not mistaken. Eliane is kind and welcoming and immediately put me at ease even though I am not confident speaking French.
My goal was to spend the week practicing conversation, and that is how we passed the time. We spent long mornings at the table sharing stories over coffee and croissants, and some days we continued our conversations while walking along the Canal du Midi or a nearby lake. As the week went on, speaking French became easier, and I was pleased to find that I understood everything.
Practicing your French language skills in a home stay in France is truly the best way to improve! My only regret is that I only spent a week- the time passed too quickly!
I enjoyed getting to know Eliane‘s family: her partner Benjamin who was so welcoming , her brother-in-law William who was so kind to give me rides, adorable Elena who was always content, and Okami- the dog, who would gaze at me with hopeful eyes during each meal.
The meals were delicious and the conversation flowed easily. Eliane is skilled at asking questions and sharing stories about her life. She also took the time to get me to and from the airport,  and often would drop me off in Carcassonne in the afternoons during my free time.
I loved exploring Carcassonne on my own, both La Bastide with its shops, cafés, art museum, and cathedral and especially La Cité Médiévale with it’s winding streets and amazing château and ramparts. I enjoyed shopping in the boutiques and eating ice cream there on more than one occasion!
I had an excursion with Eliane to the Château where she explained everything like an expert guide. I also enjoyed a winery tour and tasting with her which was a pleasant evening full of laughter.
The student apartment was spacious and each evening I was very comfortable there in my home away from home.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience that I would definitely recommend. I am very grateful to Eliane and her family for sharing their life with me for the week in such a welcoming manner, and I appreciate Eliane for helping me gain confidence speaking French.
Merci mille fois!!

French immersion with Eliane

Second stay, this time accompanied by Sarah

Lennart & Siv : September 2023

Lennart :
Thank you for the time with you and your family. Thank you for hosting me and my wife in your home. You had the patience to help me with my French. Previous group courses in France have not made me advance in being able to form my own French phrases. You had the patience to help me and to find the words needed to form a sentence. Thank you for all the service and all the good food. My wife and I really felt at home.

Siv :
Ton concept, ton accueil d'étudiants dans ta maison et dans ta famille est très réussi. Pour moi et je pense aussi pour mon mari la semaine dernière à Pezens était un cadeau qui vaut plus que bien d'autres choses.
Merci Éliane !
Mon cœur a parlé.

Michael : August 2023

I’ve taken many French classes over several years. Although I’ve made progress (especially in reading and writing), I was frustrated at my inability to have meaningful conversations beyond the rudimentary level.

Friends who have achieved fluency in French have always advised me to try a good immersion program. Unfortunately, I didn’t heed their suggestion until last week. But now that I have, I’m convinced it’s the best way to achieving real proficiency.

The key is finding a good program and Eliane’s is absolutely great. In addition to 3 hours of daily private lessons tailored to your language goals and needs, during most days you’re involved in the daily routine of her lovely, warm, and welcoming family. This isn’t just learning textbook French; it’s all about applying it—continually, exclusively, and naturally.

The comfortable, private, and spacious accommodations were another big plus. I enjoyed the breakfasts and lunches so much, I decided to add dinners as well. The almost daily excursions to explore this beautiful region of France enriched my understanding of the culture while providing opportunities to speak with many locals.

Now that I’m home, I’ll continue with conventional classes—but with a noticeable improvement in my ability and confidence.

Un grand merci, Eliane! J'espère revenir une autre semaine l'année prochaine.

Loretta : August 2023

Bob & Dolores : July 2023

We just spent two wonderful weeks with Eliane and her lovely family. We had our own apartment and were treated as honored guests. She served a wonderful breakfast each morning and lunch was practically a three-course dinner.  Our favorite town to visit was Carcassone, a medieval village with an amazing history, but Eliane drove us someplace new every day, and always with grace and humor.  Her husband even picked us up from a restaurant one night in what was almost a hurricane. As I know almost no French I was intimidated at the thought of speaking incorrectly but Eliane is gentle and I never felt pressured; my experience was so much more pleasant than I hoped.  If you’re interested in learning French you can find no teacher as kind and patient as Eliane. Both my husband and I recommend Eliane very highly.  She is a treasure.  Bob and Dolores Soffientini.

Second stay, looking forward for the next one.

Chris : June 2023

Thankyou, I have spent two weeks with Eliane, and have been very welcomed by her and her lovely family. It was well worth spending a two week vacation , immersed in the language, one week would not have felt enough. I have visited many places with Eliane, and although I didn't have my own transport I managed to visit local villages and events around the area in the free time. Eliane was very generous with her time and offering a lift into the city when needed. I also enjoyed lovely food while staying here and a great insight to french way of life. It has been a great experience and one that I hope I can repeat . It was well worth it., thankyou Eliane .

Greg : June 2023

I had the pleasure of staying for a week with Eliane and her lovely family, and it was a truly great experience. Not only did I have the opportunity to improve my French, but I got a taste of being entrenched in true French living. The apartment is comfortable, spacious and well equipped with everything you could need. The village of Pezens where they live is peaceful, interesting and pretty, with the city of Carcassonne being only a ten minute drive away with it’s medieval town and all the things that a city provides. As far as lessons went, I felt that I needed to improve particularly my spoken French, so Eliane tailored the class accordingly, focusing on the particular aspects that I needed to work on. I found her to be an extremely patient and helpful teacher, and I feel that she gave me a much better understanding of how the various language components all fit together. I’m somewhere around a B2 level of French, but I’m sure that Eliane could tailor a class for any level of student. On top of all of that, breakfast and lunch were always delicious. I have no hesitation in highly recommending anyone to come and learn French with Eliane and hope that I will be back again some time soon.

Ron : June 2023

I would highly recommend Eliane.  This was “full” immersion and there are some many things to mention.  The personalization of her teaching, the interesting outings, the location so close to Carcassonne, getting to know her family and more.  Carcassonne is an amazingly pristine medieval city.  So much history going back 6,000 years with many wonderful restaurants. Eliane also has many recorded phrases for many common situations that I found very helpful.  You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks for you hospitality and I enjoyed not only learning from you and about you and Benjamin but learned a lot about your “slice” of the French life.  Thanks for sharing you and your family with me.

Vicky & Barbara : May 2023

Vicky :
My friend Barbara and I just spent a week with Éliane in the immersion program.  It was a dream come true. For me, being in France, staying with a French family, being able to ask questions about culture as well as vocabulary and grammar--that's exactly what I wanted. Éliane is a wonderful hostess. Her husband and daughter are also charming and friendly.  And Éliane is also an excellent cook!  She prepared delicious food which was also very French.
We went together to Limousis Caves and it was fascinating. Even though I didn't understand everything the guide said, I understood enough, and Éliane was there to clarify. It was a beautiful place to visit. I like to see natural beauty. We also went to the vineyard of Château de Pennautier (the Lorgeril family) for a visit and tasting.  It was a pleasant excursion. We loved the wine and the conversation with the guide.
Barbara and I visited Carcassonne twice. Once to the city center, but it was a Monday and there wasn't much open.  On Friday, we went to the medieval city.  Our days visiting Carcassonne were lovely.  We had rented a car and it was quite easy to get around (thanks to Google Maps) and to find parking.
Because Barbara is a pilot, she and I went to the Musée Aeroscopia in Toulouse as well, about an hour's drive away.  It was worth the visit. We could go inside airplanes and learn of French aviation history. That night, we had reservations at a Michelin-starred restaurant, "PY-r".  It was a true gastronomic experience.
There was a small supermarket near us. We walked there for fresh vegetables. There was also a boulangerie where we bought baguettes.  We also took a few walks in Pezens. It was peaceful to be in the countryside and see vineyards and fields of other crops (wheat?) and a small river or stream. We also walked through an old cemetery--very interesting how families are buried together in a plot.
Our accommodations were perfect. We each had our own room. We shared a bathroom but the toilet was in a separate area from the sink and shower so it worked well. The small kitchenette was good for our needs. We preferred to eat bread, cheese, pâté, tomatoes and wine on the terrace for dinner. We were in heaven. Really.
Éliane is a good teacher. She is practical and helpful. She is also insightful. She knew what we had to work on and she knew the common mistakes of American English speakers. I had studied in France as a student (oo la la, that was too many years ago! ) and I had kept up with my French as best I could, but I forgot a lot of vocabulary and especially grammar. I make a lot of mistakes. My goal is for people to understand me, even if I prefer to speak perfectly like a Frenchwoman! I am a perfectionist and it was difficult for me to realize how bad my French had become. But it was good for me to keep talking anyway. I learned a lot. I am trying to put all this into practice. I was intrigued to learn how many of his students return each year or so. Maybe I can do that too?

Barbara :

Cheryl : May 2023

My week with Eliane was wonderful! She quickly ascertained what type of learner I was, and structured the lessons to my learning style. This both relaxed and motivated me throughout the week. I now have the tools I need to progress from a ‘beginner’ to the next level.

Eliane and I had 3 fun outings during the week, to the Cite of Carcassone, wine tasting and visiting a local market.

The student accommodation on the ground floor of her home is perfect, with everything you need for privacy, quiet study time and relaxation.

I hope to return for 2 weeks next year to further my learning adventure.

Merci beaucoup to Eliane, Benjamin and Elena for inviting me into you home for the week. It was a great experience!

Roberta : May 2023

I just left Eliane, with whom I stayed for 2 weeks. Eliane was very generous in every way - the lessons, the meals, the excursions.
When Eliane picked me up at the train Station in Carcassonne (which was very convenient for me), I felt very welcomed.
The accomodation was very confortable. I liked the room, and I was able to arrange it for my convenience. There was plenty of storage for clothes and Eliane provided all the clothes hangers I needed. I had everything I needed to feel at home.
The lessons were very thoughtfully planned and presented. Eliane took into account my level of French and my interests.
Les repas étaient délicieux et préparés avec amour !
Everything was perfect ! I had the best of both worlds - the careful attention when it was needed, and also I enjoyed provacy and independence.
Merci Eliane et Benjamin pour ce merveilleux séjour !

Zoe : April 2023

I spent a week with Eliane at the end of April. Eliane and her partner Benjamin are warm, friendly and relaxed. I felt at home as soon as I arrived.

Eliane structured the classes innovatively based on the level of my French and the subjects that I am interested in, for example, visiting the local market to learn the produce vocabulary and translating some of the information I heard from the audio guide into French to her while we visited the Cite de Carcassonne.

She was also generous with her time and went the extra mile to make sure I had a great experience in the region.

I had the whole ground floor of the house to myself and had access to the beautiful veranda and garden. It is a great place to relax and chill.

Thanks a lot Eliane, Benjamin and adorable Elena for a great week!

Linda : April 2023

I spent a week with Eliane in April and it was fantastic.  It was just the push I needed to fill the gaps and holes I was having in progressing my French.  Eliane is a great teacher and her family are very welcoming.  The accommodations were excellent and the area is beautiful - I had a great time and look forward to doing it again!

Kendra & Scott : April 2023

I recently had the privilege of attending Eliane’s in-person French immersion class. The experience was truly fantastic and exceeded all of my expectations.

Firstly, Eliane was an amazing cook and provided my husband and me with delicious breakfasts and lunches throughout our week-long stay. This added an extra layer of cultural immersion and helped us to truly experience French cuisine in an authentic way. While enjoying our meals, her infant daughter brought us a lot of joy. She was a real delight to have around.

Aside from the culinary delights, the class itself was well-structured and informative. Eliane took a truly personalized approach with me. She was able to assess my individual needs and tailor the class accordingly. She utilized a variety of teaching techniques and methods, including videos (to train my ear), grammar lessons, and cultural excursions to help me learn and absorb as much as possible. This allowed me to progress at my own pace and really focus on the
areas I needed to improve upon.

Overall, I would highly recommend this class to anyone looking to improve their language skills and gain a deeper understanding of French culture. Eliane is very patient, kind, and sympathetic to the struggles of a French language learner. Her expertise, passion, and culinary skills truly make this experience one of a
kind.

Thank you for the wonderful week!!

Margery : March 2023

First stay. Looking forward to the next one in August.

Mark & Lisa : February 2023

We have spent a fabulous week with Eliane, Benjamin, their lovely girl Elena and of course their dog Okami. We were welcomed with open arms and felt like members of the family.

Eliane is a very patient and funny teacher.
We wanted to improve our conversation skills. So Eliane tailored the lessons on our needs and interests. We had a lot of conversations on all kind of topics during which she took her time to give us all the necessary explanations each time we struggled with a point of grammar, expressions...

Eliane is a great cook. Every meals were very tasty and varied.

The accomodation was spacious very beautiful and well equiped with a lovely veranda.

We enjoy a variety of excursions to historic castles, prehistoric cave and beautiful villages.
Such a lovely week !

We only wish we had booked 2 weeks instead of one.
Thank you again Eliane for this fantastic week !

Matthew : February 2023

I want to thank you for the great week we had together.

Not only I improved my French but also, I had a lot of fun during the week. The classes with you were great, and they never seemed to go on for long.

I can't forget to thank you for all those wonderful meals you cooked for me. You really are a very good cook.

I loved the old town of Carcassonne and I'm very grateful to you for dropping me off there whenever I wanted.

The room was beautiful and very comfortable, it was a pity that I couldn’t come this spring because your garden with your swimming pool would have been very appreciated.

Again many thanks to you, your partner Benjamin, and of course your sweet Elena.

I will recommend your place to my friends and colleagues.

You will see me again, hopefully very soon!

Paul : January 2023

If you’re reading this then you’re 80% of the way to your French Immersion course! Naturally I was somewhat nervous, but I needn’t have been. Maybe you’re worried about just travelling through France to Carcassonne knowing little, if any, French? Again, don’t be. I’m just A2 level French (just above absolute beginner) and had no problems whatsoever. If you’re thinking of travelling at all by train I strongly recommend downloading the SNCF Connect App (France’s state owned railway company). It’s all in English, really easy to book trains, upgrade seats, even organise a taxi waiting for you (and they’ll wait if your train should be late). At Toulouse and Carcassonne it isn’t necessary as there’re always taxis. The App even shows you which carriage your seat’s in, and your train ticket is a QR code on the App. The only word you need to recognise is ‘Voie’ which effectively meant platform. All the taxis I took were easy, fairly priced and the drivers all friendly.

As to the Immersion course itself all I can say is Éliane has the perfect balance of being professional in her teaching, tailoring what she teaches on what and how you want to learn, and putting you at total ease due to her genuine warmth of personality and friendliness. Éliane was always happy to run me the 10 minutes into Carcassonne, or collect me anytime, or help in any way she could, along with the two organised afternoons too. Benjamin, Éliane’s partner, was also very warm and friendly, and their young daughter Elena is the absolute definition of a Sweetie-pie!

Éliane’s cooking was superb and fully accommodated my gluten-free diet. We had lessons and breakfast and lunch in their lounge upstairs, which is a lovely, light and comfortable room to be in.

The bedroom downstairs was warm and comfy, a separate good shower room and sink, and there’s a little kitchenette too.

So I recommend taking the next small step by sending Éliane an email and telling her what you would like from your immersion holiday—it’s all easier than you think!
French Immersion in Carcassonne Review

Richard : November 2022

I had a wonderful week « chez Eliane ». Through lots of conversations my confidence has improved tremendously. We studied some grammar as well, but the real emphasis was on talking which was just what I needed. Over and above that it was a really enjoyable week with Eliane, Benjamin and the adorable Elena, who were fantastic hosts. This region of France has plenty to see and do, and of course the climate is very agreeable at this time of year. And yes they have wine, lots and lots of wine….

My week with Eliane, Elena, Benjamin and Okami surpassed my expectations for a total immersion experience.  From the first emails and lasting through the entire week, Eliane conveyed genuine “joie de vivre” and a convivial approach to all aspects of this both delightful and challenging (which I sought) week.  Eliane’s course design was robust, tailored to my specific needs, and the experiences, both guided and individual, provided rich opportunities to enhance the French language with culture, history, gastronomy, and current events.

Scott : September 2022

My stay in French Immersion with Eliane has been all that I hoped for and more.

She and her family received me warmly and I've felt very comfortable during my week-long stay.

While sharing laughter filled conversations over breakfast and lunch, to excursions in the local area Eliane has quietly and sympathetically corrected my errors - just what I was looking for..

Having separate accommodation in a private appartment afforded us all good privacy, while still meaning that I didn't have far to go for breakfast and lunch!

For French students looking for direct, personal tuition - in France - I'm more than happy to recommend a week (or two) with Eliane.

Parker : September 2022

For anyone interested in the language and French culture of today and of the past a week with Eliane is very special.  I highly recommend the program that she offers.

Steve, Nikki & Lauren : September 2022

My friend Lauren, and I went to study with Eliane after several years of studying French in the USA and we learned so much in one week! My husband came with us, but did not take lessons during the week. During our lessons, Steve took short walks around the town or appreciated a quite time in the garden.

We appreciated the structure of the program and Eliane truly listened to us and created lessons to improve the skills we asked for help with and she used subjects according to our interests!  (Like for example, wine and couples therapy! 🤣)
We liked her style of teaching also!  Eliane is very particular about grammar and pronunciation.  We liked her way of stopping us for corrections.  (We liked that she explained what a French person hears when we pronounce words incorrectly! 🤣)
Eliane also had many simple rules for memorizing common points of grammar!

Finally, we loved her dog, Okami!  He was like a therapist for us!  If we felt nervous, etc he would always show up for a cuddle!  What a sweet dog!
Thank you to Eliane for a wonderful week!

Our French version of our review for Eliane :

Quel chien adorable!
Merci à Eliane pour une super semaine!

Angela : August 2022

I spent a fabulous week with Eliane, everything was perfect.
Eliane and her husband Ben were very welcoming and my little unit was lovely. Eliane is a great cook and made super fish and vegetarian meals(I don’t eat meat) which I enjoyed very much.
However Eliane and her family are moving to close to Carcasson which I think will be a superb place for a holiday. I certainly hope to visit her there ASAP for another  French immersion experience.
Eliane is a super teacher and explains  grammar very well, which was what I wanted and needed. She augmented her teaching by providing appropriate handouts on all topics we covered. She is also very patient and encouraging while helping me with my conversation.
During my stay we had two fabulous excursions. One to Amiens, famous for it’s amazing Gothic cathedral and one to the Sir John Monash Australian war Museum.
In short I can highly recommend a French immersion stay with Elaine.
Angela.

 Translation:

Many thanks to Eliane and Benjamin for their warm welcome to their lovely home. From the moment I arrived they made me feel welcome and part of the family. I had my own room well equipped with Wifi, television and Internet access. The room was very comfortable with private bathroom and a small kitchen. Everything was spotlessly clean. In addition, Eliane is a good, encouraging, helpful, friendly and positive teacher. The whole program went as planned with several wonderful visits to the region. She is knowledgeable and always had many historical anecdotes to share with me. He is a person with whom I could easily talk, share ideas and ask questions. For the kitchen, I was even more impressed. First of all, everything was good à la française, bread and croissants and fruits and vegetables that were always fresh. The meals were always tasty and appetizing, healthy, balanced and plentiful and of course, always washed down with good wine. If you want to have a nice stay in France, I advise you to do it with Eliane, Benjamin, and with little Elena. You will enjoy yourself, have a pleasant stopover and learn a lot of French.

Sarah : August 2022

What can I say? I had the best week with Eliane Benjamin and Elena (not forgetting the gorgeous  Okami).

I was a little apprehensive about the trip but was immediately put at ease when I arrived being welcomed with a delicious relaxing lunch.

Eliane tailors the lessons to your level but gently pushes you, praising and encouraging all the time.  Every day my lessons were interesting and varied.  We would chat over breakfast and lunch discussing current affairs, books, TV shows etc. Eliane has a gift of getting the best out of you. We also laughed a lot!!

The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with everything I needed, the perfect place to relax after lessons.

The food is amazing.  I think Eliane should write her own cookery book, my waistline has definitely grown - beware!!

I feel I have gained confidence in speaking French and my understanding of grammar has improved and would thoroughly recommend this experience.

Thank you xx

Meredith : July 2022

What an amazing week with Eliane and her beautiful family! I wasn't sure what to expect from an immersion program and was a little nervous before getting to France, but I'm so glad I came. Eliane spent hours talking with me each day, giving small corrections as needed or taking the time to explain a concept I was struggling with. She was a gracious host, taking me for several outings, and making some delicious meals! The studio is tranquil and private, a good way to mentally unwind after concentrating on learning, and there are some cute baby hedgehogs who visit to eat the figs off the ground. Eliane's adorable (and extraordinarily well behaved) baby and her husband, who also took the time to have some conversation with me, were the cherry on top of a great week.

Thank you for such a rewarding time, my confidence has been boosted and I'm reinvigorated to keep up my studies!

Denise & Andrea : July 2022

My friend and I spent a delightful week with Eliane. The accommodations were very comfortable. The French breakfast featured sumptuous local pastries and fruit.

Eliane is an excellent cook. Her lunches were wonderful and varied. I enjoyed dining with her family.

The morning French lessons were structured around my needs and wishes. Eliane addressed all of my questions in as much detail as I wanted. We had French conversations on many different topics, — history, culture, cooking, movies, politics,  … She paced her discussions to my level and would often restructure her sentences when I had difficulty with comprehension.

Our week with Eliane was wonderful. My friend enjoyed exploring the area or just hanging out while Eliane worked with me. It was a great experience for both an aspiring francophone and an « English only » guest.

Jeff & Sally : July 2022

We spent a week with Elaine in Roye and what a great week we had, my French has improved and it sharpened me to where l needed to improve and spend the time to achieve my goals. Elaine was a great host as was Benjamin. Every thing worked well and we enjoyed the sights of the area And spoke lots of French. I recommend that anyone with an interest in strengthening their French spend a week with Eliane and her family

Peter : June 2022

I thoroughly enjoyed my week in Roye and looking back on my time there it met all my best expectations of what an ‘immersion’ could be.

Eliane is an engaging host, a good cook and a knowledgeable guide to the area. I was treated as an honorary member of the family for the week, which was very nice. Baby Éléonore, six months old, is a delight and so well behaved, husband Benjamin joined in the conversations and was very welcoming. I also met Eliane’s mum and grandmother with whom we shared a lovely family meal in the garden.

Eliane is a very thoughtful teacher, who worked hard during the tuition sessions to identify where I was at as a French student and then create helpful lessons, which varied from fairly formal to a morning spent in the weekly market in the centre of town. Excursions to the Somme valley, Péronne and Compiegne really enhanced the week.

My priority was to improve my conversation skills and there were lots of opportunities to do that. Many conversations with Eliane, but also with a group playing pétanque in Amiens and with some people in the park in Roye as we watched the ducks together and also, unfortunately, with mechanics in the local garage when my car broke down. Learning a foreign language is a challenge as well as a delight and my stay gave a real boost to my confidence.

Roye itself is charming and dinner at ‘La Flamiche’ was a real highlight of my stay. The area around Roye is very diverse and has many destinations that are well worth exploring. From the Baie de la Somme, with amazing bird reserves, to sites connected not only with the two world wars, but also Crecy and Agincourt, to the stunning valley of the Somme itself, to the beautiful city of Amiens nearby, there is so much to see and do. I bracketed my stay in Roye with two days in Amiens and two days at Ētaples on the coast and that worked really well.

Many thanks to Eliane and all her family for making me so welcome.

Michelle & Kate : May 2022

We’ve just finished a week with Eliane, and I couldn’t be more pleased. I booked this immersion many months ago, hoping to motivate my teenage daughter to endure her online French class in 2020/21.  Our week with Eliane is the first of three weeks in France and Switzerland, and it was an ideal start to our trip.  Not only have we improved our skills with the French language, we’ve learned a lot about French culture plus history of this region.

Eliane and Benjamin are genuinely warm and friendly.  It’s very easy to feel comfortable with them.  They were happy to include us in their plans and in their home, but they were also happy to give us space.  I wasn’t sure what it would be like to stay with someone I’d never met, but I felt at ease very quickly.  Their daughter is a complete joy, the sweetest little one imaginable.

The studio set-up in the garden worked really well for us.  It’s nicely decorated and well-supplied with everything you need.  We’ve enjoyed having this as our little home for the week.

It’s important to emphasize just how much Eliane did to tailor the week for us. From accommodating my teenager’s picky eating habits, adapting the more formal part of our French lessons to our level and learning styles, and coordinating our afternoons to the excursions we wanted, Eliane made sure the week was just right for us.  She was particularly thoughtful in drawing my daughter into conversations and activities that were interesting and motivating.

Eliane is a great cook.  We ate so well!  She really should warn her students to bring bigger pants.

Roye is a pleasant town.  It’s pretty but not touristy.  It felt like we were seeing what life is really like here.  Getting out and about in town gave us opportunities to use our French, and people were always helpful.

I feel like we’ve been here with friends.  Highly recommend.

Paul : May 2022

Debbie : May 2022

I spent a fantastic week with Eliane and her family. I enjoyed meeting her partner Benjamin who picked me up at the airport, their adorable 5 month old baby Elena who I think is the best natured baby I’ve ever met - she almost never cries - and their very cute dog Okami. I am thinking of joining them next year again when they will have moved to the south of France.

Every day we started off at breakfast with our conversation. Eliane is very easy going and we seemed to find a lot of things to talk about.  I learned a lot of new vocabulary about all different sorts of topics. The emphasis on conversation was just what I needed. Eliane is also a great cook and I really enjoyed the meals she prepared.

One day we went to the Baie de Somme and did a 4 hour hike with a very knowledgeable guide. I was also able to visit the lovely towns of Amiens and Compiegne.  I walked around Roye in my free time. Eliane and Benjamin have a lovely back yard/garden where I sometimes spent time reading. The bungalow was also very nice.

Eliane - Merci beaucoup pour une très bonne semaine!

Noune : April 2022

I spent a delightful week in Roya of a full immersion in French language studies with Eliane, sharing the
daily life with her beautiful young family, enjoying her great cooking and meeting locals (even getting a
haircut a la francaise at the village Coiffeur-Visagiste!). Eliane was very responsive to my learning
interests: with in-depth conversation, introduction of selective grammar topics, suggesting and
discussing French books: overall helping me take my language studies to the next level. She thoughtfully
planned our days to combine studies with site visits and other activities. Over the week, we had a
chance to enjoy day trips to Amiens, Beauvais, and Compiegne; as well as little walk in the park, visits to
a grocery store and Friday market. All in all, I had wonderful experience and will highly recommend an
immersion program with Eliane.

John and Jane: March 2022

My wife and I traveled to Roye in the spring of 2022. We had a wonderful experience with Jane taking Fresh lessons and then touring the historic countryside together in the afternoon. Our days with Eliane were full and interesting. She is a wonderful, patient teacher worthy of all praise. The mid-day meals are a lovely taste of French cooking and are not to be missed. With Benjamin and their new baby Elena they make a lovely family. Eliane and Benjamin were the best hosts checking on our every need and made the week delightful.

Laine : March 2022

J’adore Easy French!

I had the best time with Eliane for 2 weeks. On a gap year after college, I decided to do a
homestay to practice my French in between traveling to other countries in Europe. Don’t miss
out on this incredible experience. Eliane and Benjamin are very relaxed and friendly and are a
great young couple. It was a pleasure to meet Elena, their newborn baby girl! Immediately I felt at ease and at home.
Eliane asks what you want to focus on for your stay and we made conversation our premise for
the two weeks of French lessons. After breakfast we would talk for 2 - 3 hours with Eliane giving
instruction as to what words I mispronounced and verbs I did not know (the time passed very
quickly before we had lunch). Eliane also segwayed into mini lessons of French grammar I
normally messed up while speaking which was very helpful. I had the best time in the afternoons going on walks, exploring the cute village, and being able to read, write, and relax.
Get ready to eat - Eliane is amazing at preparing meals and I’ve had enough French pastries to
last a lifetime. The studio is so pretty and private and has everything you need. Take advantage of the garden and nice weather if you can!
We went to visit Amiens, to see the beautiful Cathedral, as well as the Australian WW1 Memorial. We also made visits to the Château de Compiègne and the Museum of Jules Vern.
Eliane is very in tune with the history of the region. I had the privilege to meet most of Eliane’s
family and her friends. I feel as if I was “one of the pack” and we laughed a lot.
If you are a young person wishing to do a homestay and learn French - this is your family!
Eliane and Benjamin are cool, trendy, and a pleasure to be around. Eliane is a fantastic teacher.

Michael et Anna : September 2021

Eliane is an excellent teacher, fabulous host and chef extraordinaire.  My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Roye soaking in the Somme region, visiting Amiens and learning lots and lots of French.  Eliane is a very skilled instructor who has a keen ability to put you at ease and make you feel comfortable and brave as you push yourself to speak and understand French.  She tailors her lessons to match your level, is constantly engaging you in conversation and has a knack for explaining difficult concepts in an easy to understand manner that helps you retain what you are taught.  We couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay and highly recommend her.  Thank you Eliane! 😊

Sarah : September 2021

My french immersion homestay with Eliane was wonderful in every way- it was an unforgettable week.

Eliane and Benjamin (and Okami their very gentle and friendly dog!) are  extremely kind, warm and welcoming hosts who made me feel at home right from the start. Immediately on arrival they offered to help with my luggage and showed me to their very comfortable and newly renovated studio in their garden.

Eliane a very skilled and patient teacher who makes the lessons informative but also interesting and fun. She was excellent at explaining anything I didn't understand and would often find several ways to explain it and provide examples. Even though I kept repeating the same mistakes during my stay Eliane would never get impatient and would gently correct and remind me how to say it.

We had a very interesting afternoon trip to the Sommes battlefields and Eliane's knowledge of the history is excellent. We also did a trip to nearby Amiens which is a very attractive typically French town - all the time speaking French. Eliane is great company and I really enjoyed our chats and time spent together exploring this lovely region of Northern France.

Eliane is a superb cook who prepared many delicious, freshly home cooked French meals. It was also a fantastic way to enjoy French cuisine while improving my language skills in excellent company.

I would highly recommend a stay at Eliane and Benjamin's lovely home. I am already planning a return visit!

Jennie : July 2021

Forever changed by Easy French With Us
No words can express how I will be forever changed by this process. Easy French With Us was not only one of the best introductions to french but the best way to learn about the culture and way of life EN FRANCE.

In two weeks I have gained the confidence and knowledge to go shopping, to read, to write and to order my wine! 😉

Thank you for an experience of a lifetime! I will never forget it and WARNING ⚠ already preparing my return trip!

I am so grateful! Merci beaucoup !
Much love!
Bisous

Thomas : February 2020

This immersion and homestay were all I had hoped for. First Eliane is a wonderful teacher. She has put together creative methods to spur conversation, keep the conversation rolling and to learn and internalize some of the words/phrases/grammar used.

Each day we had 3 hours of instruction – I requested a lot of conversation in order to boost my confidence – that included videos, listening, some short local walks and conversation. This took place after breakfast where we’d already spoken for 30 minutes. To add to this, I spoke with Eliane and her partner, Benjamin, during lunch for another hour or so of instruction. Add this to the two afternoon outings and I ended up doing a lot of speaking and learning.

The accommodations were perfect. The bungalow in which I stayed for the week was clean, spacious, comfortable and private. I slept well, had time to relax my brain and it had a small kitchen so that I could go into town to get food stuffs and prepare them in the evenings. A couple of evenings I went to a restaurant in the town center (note that Sunday and Monday, it is a little difficult to find things open) and enjoyed my time there.

For my breakfast and lunch, I had plenty to eat. Eliane prepared great lunches everyday. It seems she can do it all: she is a wonderful teacher, host and cooks delicious food.

Summary, I left speaking much better than I did when I arrived, I relaxed, ate very well and had a fabulous vacation. If you are considering it, do it.

David & Fran : February 2020

We had the pleasure of one week’s language immersion with Eliane towards the end of winter 2020. Coming from Australia, our language skills in French are somewhat basic (between advanced beginners to low intermediate).

With Eliane we concentrated on the use of several tenses (composed past, imperfect, future simple, conditional) as well as general conversation. We found her lessons very enjoyable, informative and well structured. Her very personable manner was delightful and we immediately felt at home in her and her partner Benjamin’s home in Roye.

The separate studio apartment in their garden was very comfortable and we had our own privacy. Eliane’s cooking is superb and the meal-times were prolonged and a great opportunity for us to practice our conversational French.

Our excursions in and around Roye were particularly stimulating. This was a part of France that neither of us had visited before and we found the experience of exploring the area very enjoyable. One highlight was an unplanned visit to the local florist with whom we had a long and lively conversation (in French!). For such a small town, Roye has terrific facilities, with an excellent cinema/theatre, heated swimming pool etc and we found the people there to be very friendly.

The days with Eliane were nicely structured, beginning with a prolonged breakfast together followed by around three hours of formal tuition, and then a long, conversationally rich, lunch. Two afternoons were taken up with excursions to the Australian war cemeteries on one day and to Amiens on another day, where we visited the extraordinary cathedral and the Jules Verne museum. We became completely hooked on Jules Verne as a result and have enjoyed greatly reading Around the World in 80 Days in its original French ever since! On the other days we had time to ourselves to explore the township of Roye and the nearby fields which are full of impressive wind turbines.

We have no hesitation in recommending Eliane for language immersion. She made us very welcome and we felt that our French language skills improved markedly under her tuition.

Andrea : October 2019

What an amazing and positive experience.

I had been wanting to do French Immersion for years, but was either short on time or too hesitant to take the plunge. I am so glad that I did. My French can at best be called rusty and patchy and I was keen to expand my conversational ability. I believe I have achieved that.

The whole process could not have been simpler. The information on the website was thorough and gave me a great picture of what to expect. Communication with Eliane was simple and quick and payment by bank transfer was very easy and secure. Before coming, I received emails on information about the immersion experience, as well as a questionnaire to fill out about my ability, or lack thereof, in French, my interests, allergies, food preferences, etc.

Eliane and her delightful partner Benjamin met me at the airport (CDG) in the evening and very patiently circled the car park as my bags were delayed. The trip from CDG was very short – about an hour and we arrived in Roye, where I was also greeted by their adorable dog Okami. He is very friendly and not remotely threatening and is a great conversation ice breaker.

Their house is very welcoming and the “guesthouse”/granny flat that I stayed in was perfect. It was very clean, neat and had all that one could require – great shower, fridge, stove top, kitchen electrics, TV and very good wifi! Plus the total privacy was an amazing luxury. It was like staying in a 5 star hotel! They also have a very big garden, which is perfect for children (I just enjoyed the view from my little patio).

As for the lessons, they were tailored to suit my request and could be also be changed at my request at any time. We conversed, read, went through grammar and practiced comprehension. If I had an issue with one aspect of conversation, we would focus on that. Eliane was patient but also very adaptable. She made the lessons interactive and interesting. It was just what I needed to improve my confidence. Sometimes we would walk in the park and practice there, as would happen in real life if you were conversing with someone.

We also went on two excursions – one for clothes shopping and sightseeing in Compiegne, which was great fun, and one to a war memorial which was also great (though sad). We went shopping at the local market where I had to order the produce, normal supermarket shopping  and Eliane also kindly took me on a side trip to a local gin distillery (I love gin!). She is very knowledgeable on history and current politics/world issues as well as local specialties.

Eliane prepared a fabulous breakfast every morning and we conversed over breakfast. Lunch was delicious and filling – she is a great chef!

Roye itself is a very peaceful and pleasant town with plenty of interesting things to do in short driving distance – of course the battlefields and memorials are a must. There is a supermarket in walking distance and also a beautiful park. There is a Michelin star restaurant, as well as others.

All in all, I could not recommend Eliane’s  french immersion highly enough! I think she would be suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced and the area gives plenty of interesting topics to discuss.

Eliane, Benjamin and Okami, thank you for a wonderful stay!

Rose : October 2019

I have managed to learn so much in a week with Éliane. I have always wanted to do a French immersion course but being a beginner and a very nervous person I was terrified. Éliane was already waiting for me with her lovely smile when I arrived at the station. This was so reassuring. Her partner Benjamin and their amazing dog Okami also met me with such friendliness that I was put at ease immediately.

Éliane is a fabulous teacher. She can explain things so well and was so patient with all my questions. I wish I could spend longer with her so that I could improve upon the solid foundation that she has given me. If I ever have the opportunity to come back for more lessons I will without hesitation.

The student bungalow is very private and peaceful. It has everything that you need and it is so cozy and comfortable it surpassed my expectations. The meals that Éliane prepared were brilliant. She asked what I liked at the start of the week and every meal was freshly prepared.

Whatever it is that you want to focus on…. the fascinating history of the area, amazing French cuisine, or learning the language it  can be found in Roye with this charming family. Éliane, Benjamin, and no one can forget Okami, are the perfect hosts and I would recommend them to everyone.

Frazer : October 2019

My week with Eliane and her family (Okami and Benjamin) was  »Incroyable» !

Not only was Eliane a good teacher in French, but she was also a great cook, tour guide and concierge to show me the best places to go, when I needed.

I would highly recommend Eliane for a person who wants to learn French in a different way to what they’ve experienced before, I look forward to hearing from Eliane and the family in the near future!

Shirley : September 2019

I really enjoyed my stay with Eliane and Benjamin. They were both very friendly and accommodating.

As a teacher Eliane is very supportive and patient. She picked up right away on my learning style. My goal is to be more conversational. As a beginner and shy person, she was quick to gently encourage me to speak and not be afraid to make mistakes. Even though I have a ways to go, I think Eliane has me going in the right direction.

I highly recommend Eliane as an immersion teacher. I was way out of my comfort zone, but she made me feel at home and at ease.

Thank you Eliane and Benjamin and Okami (the beautiful dog) for a great week.

André & Christina : Septembre 2019

Merci beaucoup pour ce séjour agréable à Roye. Votre générosité et votre hospitalité ont dépassé toutes nos attentes.

The classes and the format was excellent. My vocabulary and my pronunciation was improved and it is exactly what I needed. Knowing that my pronunciation and my vocabulary was better than I started, has improved my confidence.

The length of the classes was just right, and the material we used has helped my ear. I can hear more French and I may not always understand what is said, I can look up the word later or even ask the person ‘s’il vous plaît qu’est-ce que vous avez dit ou le mot que vous venez de dire’ and repeat the word back to the speaker.

In spite of the weather the excursions were enjoyable. It was like putting a face the places you have read so much about. The whisky tasting was something new for me and I liked the enthusiasm of Etienne, our host.

My wife enjoyed her stay and Okami, your lovely gentle dog with the serious face, was a treat.

I would love to come-back to you and learn more. We love the region and the friendliness of the French people and all the people in the shops who helped me with my French.

L’année prochaine peut-être si mon temps le permet.

I cannot recommend Eliane highly enough. She really understood that I needed to understand the structure of the language in order to develop my speaking skills. Her way of teaching is the most logical and simple that I have experienced and things that had confused me in the past started to make sense. She is very good, patient teacher and a lovely person!

Her and Benjamin are incredibly kind and welcoming. I am seven months pregnant but Eliane was extremely thoughtful about what to cook and what trips would suit me. The food was delicious and her studio is very peaceful and comfortable.

I would recommend Eliane to all my friends and I wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again. I now feel confident about how to continue practicing french for myself and hope that when I meet her again she gets to see a big improvement. Also, Okami, their dog, is lovely!

Thank you Eliane and Benjamin!

Tracy : August 2019

I want to thank you for a wonderful week! You were a great host and a wonderful teacher.

This experience was exactly what I was looking for. I truly enjoyed spending time getting to know you and your family while improving my French! It was also great that you took the time to show me around your region so I could really experience the history and the culture. This was my first time to the North part of France and I loved it!

Staying in your studio was a comfortable and a relaxing place to stay.

I very much appreciate that you listened to my request; utilizing a more open-discussion style (as I am an Intermediate student) while also helping me with my weakness (oral comprehension) though fun exercises. I also appreciated our daily “walkabouts” to the market, butcher, etc.

The meals were great – you are an excellent cook.

Many thanks again and I hope to see you again soon!

Johnny : August 2019

As the train pulled into Amiens, my mind wandered, and my nerves slightly rattled. I had no idea what to expect for the next few weeks. I was scared and excited all at once until Eliane greeted me at the town square just outside the station. Her warm welcome calmed my nerves, and a lovely conversation began to flow, I knew right away I was in good French hands.

Over the last two weeks, I felt like I became a part of her family. The most significant gift out of all of this experience is that I am walking away speaking and understanding French on a higher level.

Eliane curated lessons around topics of interest and that I can use for my occupation. Also, she was very patient, dedicated to my success and answered all my questions with a smile.

Her teaching style is engaging and fun which, makes the learning process exciting.

I can’t wait to book another experience with her and my new extended French family.

Oh, and please come with an appetite because, elle sait très bien cuisiner!

Julia, Brian & Hart : July 2019

Our recent stay with Eliane was the highlight of our time in France. She is such an accomplished hostess and energetic teacher!

The main objective for our week of immersion was to introduce our 11 year old son to French for his new school. Eliane provided instruction at a completely beginner level for him, but at the same time she was able to include my husband and I in a way that we also learned effectively. Our lessons were interesting and fun!

It was a pleasure to listen to her beautiful French language and be inspired by her enthusiasm.

The village of Roi is a Monet picture perfect setting in which we immersed ourselves in the culture of the countryside of France.

Thank you Eliane for sharing your love of the French language, culture and cuisine!

Steve : August 2019

I could not be happier with my choice for the week I spent in northern France with Eliane and Benjamin. My interests are history and learning how to speak French. . So visiting northern France with all the history of World War I and World War II was a perfect pick for my French immersion experience.

Right from the start Eliane and Benjamin made me feel at home. I stayed in the apartment behind their house, which is very nice and private.

I have been studying French for almost a year using apps, watching French movies on Netflix, watching YouTube videos and Elaine brought it all together for me. I know she quickly assessed my skill level and developed lessons tailored to exactly what I needed. I am learning French a little later in life and Eliane is a very patient professor and has the perfect balance between correction and encouragement. By the end of the week the light started to turn on in my head and everything I’ve been trying to learn on my own started to come together.

After our morning lessons, based on suggestions from Eliane, I would tour the Somme battlefields on my own. I had many opportunities to speak what I had been learning, and sometimes it was sink or swim. But it was really fun trying to communicate with someone who did not speak English, and all the French people I came in contact with were very nice.

I also went on two excursions with Eliane. She is very knowledgeable about the history of northern France, which was a very pleasant surprise. In fact she could easily teach a history class on World War I. One afternoon we went to Eliane’s mothers house and had lunch with her mother and grandmother. This turned out to be one of my favorite moments, not only did I get a chance to speak more French, but the food was absolutely incredible. Eliane, her mother and grandmother are excellent “les cuisiniers”, in fact, I did not want to leave that table, like ever! Haha, it was “très bon”.

Overall I would easily rate the week “five stars”. My visit had everything I could have asked for and more, learning and speaking French, touring historical sites, eating fantastic food, staying in a large studio apartment and getting to know Eliane and Benjamin. They are not only great hosts that make you feel welcome and comfortable, they are also really nice people and fun to be around.
Thank you Eliane and Benjamin for a fantastic experience!

I miss you already!

A Wonderful Host, with a Great Partner, and an Adorable Dog.

My wife recently completed her French Immersion stay with Eliane.  I too enjoyed my experience tremendously even though I was not one of her “students”.

Prior to the trip, I had concerns with how I was going to spend my mornings while my wife was in the “classroom”.  Eliane’s French Immersion profile indicated that she is opened to excursions. I emailed  Eliane and expressed my interest of visiting the Champagne region (home of the world famous sparkling wine – Champagne) and the city of Rouen (where Joan of Arc was tried and burned in 1431).  Eliane responded by saying that she can accommodate my requests.

Our first day-trip was to the village of Hautvillers.  This is the cradle of champagne where ancient monk Dom Pierre Perignon discovered the champagne wine making process in the 18th century.  The 2-hour drive from Roye to Hautvillers passed quickly with Eliane conducted French lesson with my wife while Benjamin was behind the wheel.

My wife had her regular French lesson with Eliane on Tuesday and Friday while I played golf at the Golf Du Chateau D’humieres.  It was a serene golf course where most golfers walked the 18 holes.

Our second day-trip was to the city of Rouen.   We visited the Église Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc and  Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen.  We admired the Gros-Horlodge – 14th century astronomical clock built during in the Renaissance.  We had lunch at an authentic Vietnamese restaurant where we introduced Eliane and Benjamin to rice vermicelles.

Once again, Eliane conducted French lessons with my wife during the day-trip while I learned the historical importance of Rouen.

Needless to say, we enjoyed our French Immersion experience with Eliane, Benjamin and Ogami.

My wife was able to improve both her French listening and speaking skills.  I had a wonderful time playing golf, visiting palaces, and drinking champagne.

I would highly recommend Eliane as your French Immersion teacher if you want to experience France while improving your French language skills.
Our French immersion home stay with Eliane and Benjamin was the highpoint of our trip to France this year!

Elaine was a wonderful cook, and our meals were a relaxing time to practice our language skills and an opportunity to learn some secrets of French cooking. We enjoyed going to the local Farmer’s market with Elaine, too. We learned more about her community and town as we shopped.

Eliane tailored our daily lessons to our level of knowledge, and I found my pronunciation improved with her help, too. It needed quite a bit of practice!

We were comfortable in the studio apartment behind their house, and we walked to the nearby park and explored the town in our afternoons and evenings. Benjamin drove us all to Amiens to see the cathedral and the canals with the floating gardens for our first afternoon excursion, and later in the week to Compiegne to visit the famous Chateau.

We would recommend this experience to anyone!

Cary : June 2019

A wonderful experience! I spent a week with Eliane in June of 2019 and could not have been more satisfied.

Eliane is one of the most intelligent, patient, and caring people I have ever met. From the enrolment process to the final goodbye at her house, Eliane made everything easy and enjoyable.

I was a nervous and novice French speaker with very little confidence in my speaking ability when I arrived for immersion. During my stay, I learned a great deal of French from Eliane, but most importantly for me, she gave me the confidence to go out and use what I had learned. After the immersion, I spent three weeks in France and was able to communicate effectively in any situation I found myself.

My goals for the immersion were unique and Eliane structured our daily lessons to accommodate those goals. For an excursion, I had a very unusual request to go out and hunt down a WWI monument way out in the middle of nowhere and in some pretty thick vegetation. Eliane didn’t hesitate, we found it together and she seemed as excited as I was to find the monument. We also visited several castles during the week. During the excursions, you were continuously working on your French through conversation.

BONUS: Eliane is a wonderful chef. The meals she prepared for lunch were the finest meals I had while in France for the entire month. Eliane knew that I was a big fan of the local French cuisine so that is what she served. I loved the lessons and the learning, but I could not wait to see and eat what was for lunch every day.

The other bonus is Benjamin. Benjamin is as kind and friendly as Eliane and they make a great couple. Benjamin is an intelligent and interesting young man and it was fun spending time with him as well. If you run into any problems, Eliane and Benjamin can and will help you through the problem – regardless of your own idiocy.

Don : May 2019

I want to thank you again for my stay with you during the latter two weeks of May in the FrenchToday immersion program.

You and Benjamin are truly welcoming and I enjoyed my time in Roye. My accommodations were comfortable and as you know I had no trouble sleeping. Your lunches were wonderful and you never failed to provide delicious dessert.

I believe my immersion time spent with you in speaking and grammar review paid off as I found afterwards while cycling in Normandy, my confidence in speaking French had increased and my comprehension was much better. Unfortunate that I did not have more time with you as two weeks goes by far too quickly. You are very patient and lots of fun with something different planned for each day.

I am looking forward to when I can return.

Thanks for everything.

Joanne : May 2019

I have just finished a wonderful Immersion week in Roye at Chez Éliane, Éliane and her partner Benjamin were very natural and welcoming from the start. We had a lovely dinner (she is great cook!) and relaxed first evening getting to know each other. I had wanted to do a French Immersion Course for work and to improve my conversational skills. Prior to my arrival, Éliane had asked me questions to gauge what I wanted to achieve from the course, as well as for work I requested meeting more French people in a social setting. She kindly organised a dinner party with her friends to attend so I could join in, a fun evening ensued in a welcoming French atmosphere.

For me; the morning lessons, walks and afternoon excursions were a great combination. We spent one afternoon, at my request visiting the Somme region historical War Memorials which was very interesting. I also had the pleasure of meeting Éliane’s grandmother, mother Chantal and her student Stephan who joined us with Benjamin for lunch one day, after lunch some of us visited the magnificent Cathedral of Amiens and strolled around the city.

I really feel Éliane put a lot of effort into making sure I got the best out of my time spent with her in her home, from a learning perspective but also to feeling at home. The studio in the garden is spacious, clean and very comfortable for any visitor staying, I am sure if I needed anything else then Éliane would have done her best to provide it for me. I highly recommend Éliane for an informative, fun and interesting way to improve your French language capabilities.

Lily : April 2019

I had an amazing week with Eliane and Benjamin at their home in the Somme region of northern France.

I was a bit worried before hand about how it would go as I am 15 and this was my first french immersion but they were so welcoming and patient that I felt at home straight away.

For me the most important thing to work on was my spoken french and Eliane helped me to do this by talking to me in French troughout the day.

This started at breakfast and then whilst we walked their beautiful dog Okami. I helped her make lunch most days and she would explain what she was doing as we went along. The fact that we were speaking french all day unless I didn’t understand something really helped to improve my confidence and vocabulary.

After lunch we visited many different places ; we visited Amiens (the cathedral there is amazing) and went to the zoo there, we visited some of the Somme battlefields and memorials and we looked around Roye and the surrounding area wich was really nice.

I had the pleasure of meeting both Eliane’s and Benjamin’s parents wich eventhough it made me nervous enabled me to talk to more people.

!thank you so much for having me this week ! I really enjoyed it and it really helped me to improve my french.

Debra : April 2019

Eliane Paauwen was my French Today teacher last week in the lovely village of Roye.

Eliane was superb! In fact it is difficult for me to write this in English because my first thought now is in French, after only one week. The lessons were interesting, not repetitive, and we talked about many things during meals, driving to nearby towns and walking in the village and the park. We even went swimming in the city pool, which was beautiful, clean, and perfect for me as I swim at home regularly.

Eliane and Benjamin, her partner, were kind and helpful. Eliane was always patient with my requests to “say it again” and “speak more slowly, please” and “spell that for me”.

I should mention also that she is a very good cook, and the accommodation was spacious and comfortable. This was a great start to a five week visit to France, and I highly recommend it, and especially Eliane as a teacher.

Linda : April 2019

I have just finished a two week French immersion with these objectives in mind:  to speak French more fluently and to improve my listening skills, as well as to work on my grammar weaknesses and pronunciation.

Eliane works very hard to give her students a worthwhile immersion.  She used a variety of teaching methods to make my lessons interesting and specific to my needs.  I found Eliane to be very patient and she is very competent at what she does.  It has to be the most efficient way for a student to progress and I am amazed and delighted with how far I have come in those two weeks.

I felt completely at ease with Eliane and Benjamin – they are both welcoming and kind and they showed me such warm hospitality.

I chose to stay in the studio in their garden – a lovely space and a very comfortable retreat at the end of the day.  The door to the main house was always open and Eliane told me more than once to “fais comme chez toi”.

The lessons started with conversation over breakfast (at 9am) and continued shortly afterwards with a more structured lesson until noon.  Then time for a break back at the studio until lunch was ready to be served.

Eliane is a great cook and I was treated to mouth-watering meals.

As well as the lessons there were excursions and outings and these gave me more opportunities to develop my French abilities.

It was a very positive experience for me, and I would definitely recommend an immersion with Eliane to anyone wishing to improve their French.

Suomi : March 2019

I spent a memorable week with Eliane in March during which I not only studied French but also visited a fascinating region of France and was included in activities of an extended family.

On the French language front, we read a book written by a French journalist about his life with two children with severe disabilities. Discussing what we read allowed me o practice oral communication skills. Elaine had prepared exercises that also improved my comprehension skills and expanded my vocabulary, especially adjectives which enrich the language. But the book also exposed me to French social protection system as well as to French humor.

Speaking of humor, I was lucky that my stay coincided with a live stand up comedy show by Blanche Gardin, a celebrated comedian, in Paris and streamed direct to movie theaters around France. Elaine arranged tickets so I could join her and her partner as well as others from her extended family to see the show in a local cinema. It was challenging to follow a stand up comic but definitely worth it. And with YouTube you can always review it later!

This was not the only opportunity to be with Elaine’s extended family. One day we had lunch with Elaine’s grandmother, mother (also a French Today teacher) and her student followed by a joint excursion. A larger but still manageable size group made for a great setting to practice natural French conversation.

This was my first visit to this part of France. It has so much to see ranging from medieval sites to more modern history. Elaine lives in a small but charming medieval village close to towns associated with Jean d’Arc lore. We visited sites linked to the WWI battle of Sommes. Amiens, a city where Elaine studied and thus, knows well, is famous not only for its cathedral but also for its association with Jules Verne. His house, turned into a museum, is well worth a visit. Finally, Macarons d’Amiens bought in the store of Jean Trogneux in center of Amiens are a great conversation pieces upon my return from France as this is the main store of the family of Brigitte Macron.

For improving your French and getting to know this region, I highly recommend a stay with Elaine.

Jacqueline : March 2019

I have just returned from a lovely week studying French with Eliane in the Somme region of northern France. Eliane and her partner Benjamin could not have been friendlier or more welcoming.

Communication prior to the course was excellent and from our first emails Eliane was reassuring and helpful.

My French is very basic and my objective was to improve my aural comprehension. This was not a problem for Eliane.  From breakfast time chat, through walking her dog together, structured lessons and delicious lunches, Eliane pitched our conversations perfectly.

I was also fortunate enough to meet Eliane’s charming grandmother who also enjoyed a chat which was further practise for me.

My accommodation in Eliane and Benjamins garden studio was ideal; clean, private, bright, comfortable and equipped with everything I needed.

During the week we visited Amiens, the forest at Compiegne and the museum at Albert where Eliane was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable about the area.

Before the course I was apprehensive that with my beginners French I would struggle but, due to Eliane’s warm and patient nature, it turned out to be a great experience that I would definitely recommend.

Merci mille fois Eliane.

Dean : 2018

My time with Eliane was too short! I would have liked an extra week.

In just one week, I learned so much and was shocked to find out how much I actually knew. Eliane managed to get me to a level of confidence in speaking that I had not anticipated, and this really helped with my work the following week in Cameroon.

She created some great activities for the lessons, and the discussion topics motivated me to speak. I was especially happy that she tried to explain things I did not know in French and not in English. This kept my brain locked into the language for the week!

Thanks again Eliane. I hope to be able to pay another visit soon.

I fancied a week away in October and when a friend suggested a French Immersion stay I was sold. I’ve always loved the French language and couldn’t wait to start talking it again. We chose Eliane because what she offered was perfect for what we wanted to get from the week. We also thought that the Picardie region would be interesting to visit for day excursions. We were so enthusiastic about our French stay that soon we had recruited another friend to come with us!

Barbara
We had a fantastic week chez Eliane. She is so welcoming and accommodating and easy to talk to. We laughed and chatted in French over breakfast and lunch and took our French classes in the morning. Our afternoon excursions took us to the Somme Memorials and the beautiful Baie de Picardy. We also visited beautiful Amiens and Compiegne.

I will never forget our stay with Eliane and her lovely partner Benjamin. A French Immersion stay is a great way to make memories and new friends!

Helen
What a wonderful way to improve your conversational French – we spent a most enjoyable week with Eliane in her very comfortable home where we worked hard on our French, ate well, laughed a lot and savoured generous French hospitality! A great all round cultural experience and one to be highly recommended.
Merci encore pour tout!

After studying French on the internet I wanted an opportunity to practice what I had learnt and get past that barrier of not being sure what to say at that moment when it’s needed or understanding the response.

The immersion course with Eliane and her family, Benjamin and Okami was just what I needed and had hoped for.

Eliane was very flexible with regard to studies and we concentrated on conversational French whilst enjoying the Picardy region. After a few days I felt a real change in my understanding and by the end of the week left with the confidence to spend a further week traveling around Picardy and Normandy, speaking only French.

I found the locals in the village of Roye to be very friendly and happy to talk to me in French even though many probably spoke good English. Certainly Picardy is a good place to strike up conversations with strangers to get that ever necessary additional practice.

I felt as if I was on holiday chatting with friends rather than studying hard at a foreign language and with a better result.
We had some lovely walks around Roye with (the dog) Okami and visited the trenches, Merlin’s castle and Bonaparte’s holiday chateau.

I stayed in the studio apartment in the garden which was ideal and the door to the main house was always open.
Eliane made a delicious breakfast and lunch each day having no problem to cater for my flexitarian diet.
I would definitely recommend an immersion course with Eliane in Picardy.

Dave : 2018

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet a beautiful French couple and take a week of French immersion in the Somme this fall. Although I had traveled around much of France before I had never been to this part of the country.

After picking me up from the train station, Eliane and Benjamin welcomed me into their home like I was one of the family. The first morning Eliane and I took a walk with their young puppy “Okami” where Eliane quietly assessed, through our conversation, my understanding of French language. She then tailored the lessons to target my areas of need.

We spent the next week with lessons in the morning and leisure in the afternoon. Some afternoons were free for me to do whatever I wanted but several afternoons were spent on amazing excursions discovering the richness that was the region of the Somme.

Two excursions were a highlight for me. First was a visit to the “Baie de Somme” on the Atlantic Coast. So beautiful and so much history. The second was an afternoon spent exploring the city of Amiens including the incredible cathedral. Truly amazing! Incroyable!

My week with Eliane & Benjamin was as much a vacation as it was an education. My French language definitely improved while having an absolute splendid time exploring a part of France that was new and fresh.

I would highly recommend a week (or more) in the Somme with Eliane & Benjamin.

Stefano : 2018

I stayed 2 weeks at Eliane’s house and I’m very happy of having done this experience. Now I feel more confident of speaking in France since I started as a A1.

Eliane and his fiancé made me feel like I was at home and they were extremely flexible.

Now I’m going to summarize the main points:

1.Accomodation:
The loft is very clean and huge and it has all that you need: tv, wi-fi, kitchen and bathroom.

2.French Lesson:
I practice all the days a lot, she is a very good teacher and patient.

3.Breakfast:
Starting from the breakfast I have practiced French with Eliane. She bought all special food for me since I’m allergic to gluten.

4.Lunch:
Eliane is a good chef, we had lunch at home and also at the restaurants.

5.Excursion:
We did lots of excursions also during the weekend, and also when she had to do some errand she brought me together.

David & Daughter : 2018

Our one-week stay with Éliane was simply magnificent, surpassing all expectations.

My daughter (age 16) and I (age 47) both came to improve our intermediate (B2/C1) French language skills. Éliane was enormously generous with her time and her home.

She spent 35+ hours with us during the stay, including lessons, meals, tourist outings, and recreational activities. She is highly professional and also highly personable, full of friendly enthusiasm.

The instruction was very effective. I could see the leap in my daughter’s speaking ability, and could feel myself thinking more and more in French as the visit went on.

Towards the end of the week, we played host and took Éliane and her partner Benjamin out to one of Roye’s multiple high-end “restaurant gastronomique” for a 7-course tasting menu. We all got dressed up and had a lovely evening talking (in french, of course) at a more personal level and getting to know each other better. It was delightful.

Éliane taught using a variety of techniques. We read comedy sketches aloud to work on pronunciation and vocabulary. We played word-games like Taboo and Hangman to work on vocabulary and description. We watched and discussed television broadcasts (news and sketch comedy) to work on oral comprehension, vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions. We did crossword puzzles together for grammar and verb conjugation.

We conversed about our surrounding while walking the neighborhood to work on oral production and vocabulary. We visited the public market and talked with some of the local residents. Throughout, we used small notebooks to jot down unfamiliar words and expressions that came up and to reinforce what we learned.

Éliane is a creative teacher and generous host, who did everything imaginable to make sure my daughter and I had a memorable stay. She did a great job accommodating our different interests, different areas of strength and weakness with the language, and different levels of stamina.

I was able to spend a week in Picardie, learning French with Éliane and her partner Benjamin.  They have a beautiful little home, and I had a separate apartment in the back in my own little separate building.  My place was excellent! It was brand new, private, and had everything I needed.   I was able to come and go as I pleased, which was good because in the afternoons and evenings I enjoyed getting out to wander the countryside and look at sites of interest without bothering Elaine and Benjamin with my coming and going. They were wonderful hosts. Very engaging, and we shared some great breakfasts and lunches. Very good company!

I had been working on French only through self study, and with Éliane’s patient teaching I believe I added significantly to my skill set. It was exactly what I needed, though I wish I had had more time. I believe I improved dramatically in one week, and two weeks would have made an even bigger difference. Éliane has a gift for teaching French… patience, positivity and a sense of humor made it a wonderful experience.

The Picardie region is beautiful. I toured several important WWI battlefields, including the beautiful Aisne-Marne American cemetery and the nearby Belleau Wood battlefield (hallowed ground for the US Marine Corps). I also got to visit several cathedrals, including the Amiens cathedral, which is one of the most beautiful in France (and in the world).

It was a wonderful and worthwhile experience all around, and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their French skills and enjoy the beautiful region of Picardie.

I have just spent 2 weeks with Eliane – the first with lessons and the second focussing on speaking and speaking street french!
It was a perfect combination for me and I am now much more confident participating in conversation and using it while I’m shopping! This is all thanks to Eliane’s patience and encouragement.

Eliane is also a super friendly, easy going and has a lovely sense of humour. Her partner Benjamin is equally nice!

My accommodation is a new self contained studio, modern, very comfortable and bright.
My meals are always delicious, varied, fresh and healthy!  Eliane is good cook!

La Somme is a very interesting and historical region. From chateaus to WW1 battlefields, Jules Verne’s Mansion to underground museums and of course beautiful french countrysides, there are still much more to discover and do! I have enjoyed my outings – – such as visiting landmarks and activities – such as running with Eliane. Along the way, we always have good laughs!

What a rewarding 2 weeks for me!
I’m planning to come back!

Rafe : 2018

I had the very good fortune to spend a week with Eliane at the beginning of July 2018. From the start, Eliane and her partner Benjamin welcomed me enthusiastically into their charming home.

I stayed in their comfortable new studio but was also welcomed to make use of the living room in their house for relaxing and watching television.

After breakfast (at a very civilised 9AM!), each day we spent the mornings going through chapters and exercises from a grammar textbook and looking at a few video-clips to practise comprehension. Eliane carefully and patiently explained whenever I had difficulties and set some homework to help reinforce my learning.

Eliane provided wonderfully delicious lunches every day and our afternoon visits were tailored to my interests (in particular World War One history). These outings provided a valuable opportunity to practise chatting in French, and by the end of the week I’m sure my modest abilities had improved significantly.

I would like to thank Eliane and Benjamin very much for a splendid week and for all their hospitality and kindness!

My confidence in French has improved and I hope to take the learning forward. Above all, it was great fun!

I have just returned from a week and a half stay with Eliane Paauwen in Roye, Picardie.

It is hard to fully describe what a wonderful experience it was.

Eliane is a wonderful hostess who welcomes you into her home and makes you instantly feel not only an honored guest, but also a friend.

Eliane is an excellent French teacher. She is patient, encouraging, and has a killer sense of humor. Although she is fluent in English, she knows when to help fill-in the gaps versus letting you remember the details from a prior conversation. Eliane and her partenaire Benjamin have just finished the guest apartment in the backyard. This is a new, well-appointed studio with an ensuite bathroom with shower, and a kitchenette. The setting is very comfortable and peaceful with glorious birdsong in the mornings.

The conversation and learning never stops from the typical French breakfasts, through the didactic session, to the afternoon excursions to the surrounding towns and sites and on into the delicious evening dinners.

We toured Amiens, Compiègne, the Chateaux of Chantilly and Pierrefonds, Albert with the WWI trenches, museum, cemeteries and War Memorials, and just the beautiful Picardie countryside.

Eliane is not only a great cook, but she is an excellent historian. Eliane and Benjamin are two delightful people who warmly share their corner of France with you while your French language skills greatly improve.

I highly recommend an immersion homestay with Eliane Paauwen in Roye. I am looking forward to returning to Roye and Eliane’s and Benjamin’s home to continue my ongoing mastering of the French language and to further explore this beautiful region of France.

Je me suis vraiment bien amusé !

Jane & Jim : 2018

Eliane & her husband Benjamin are a hip young couple who live in a big renovated brick house near the center of Roye. After a long overnight flight it was such a pleasant relief to see the friendly face of Eliane when she picked us up at CDG airport.

As their guest home in the back yard is still being finished, we were given a spacious bedroom on their top floor. It is quiet, bright and confortable. The two are very accomodating. We never felt like we were intruding. More than once we heard « servez-vous, faites comme chez vous ! ».

Both Eliane & her husband are confortable with occasional English, helping you retrieve the right word or phrase. This makes all types of conversation easier and more educational, be it at mealtime, in the car or going for a walk.

Do not miss meals as there are delicious and afford more opportunity for conversation.

Excursions with Eliane & Benjamin were fun and interesting. Eliane also advises on your choice of places to visit or avoid, and she was never wrong. The countryside is beautiful, and the villages and towns are lovely – alive with history and art is every where, down to the buildings and homes with their sculptures and gardens.

Eliane provides engaging, structured classes with energy and enthousiasm. Although only one of us was student, this was a fun experience for both.

We are sad to be leaving our new friends !

Silvia : 2018

I decided to try French immersion following the advice of a friend who stayed with Eliane’s mother, Chantal, previously. And what experience it was for me!

After many hours in a plane and considering the different time zone, I was grateful for the possibility of arriving at Eliane’s town quickly and I immediately felt at home. I even had the opportunity to experience a true French family Sunday brunch, what a luxury when learning the language. I am very thankful to all of them for welcoming me on such occasion.

I spent a wonderful week with Eliane and my only regret was that I hadn’t booked two weeks. My confidence in speaking French increased significantly and I’m sure all my “bad habits” would have been eradicated within a two-week stint.

The house was warm and comfortable despite it being the beginning of March. Elaine “disappeared” briefly at lunch time to prepare a delicious meal effortlessly for the two of us. I guess I was a challenge for her as I am lactose intolerant: what a situation to have in the country of cheese, cream and cakes! Elaine did not show any sign of stress while offering such meals and I enjoyed every breakfast and lunch with her, dairy-free!

I enjoyed the class structure and she adapted to my request: focus on conversation. At the end of the day, Elaine had the grammar and the books to correct my mistakes of the day. That was brilliant as I was able to understand my weak points and consolidate the right use of French, written and spoken.

When I absentmindedly used an English word, she politely repeated in French which encouraged me to try harder with mine.

I enjoyed spending time with Eliane and her partner during my week very much! I felt at home and I left with the confidence of speaking a better level of French, especially when alone in Paris.

Thanks, Eliane for a wonderful time! I definitely will do it again!
