The joy of being a grandmother
As you may already know if you follow us on social media, my daughter Eliane was expecting a happy event. The pregnancy was long and a bit complicated for her, especially towards the end! She, who thought she had a premature birth, had to wait until the end! Indeed, the little Princess had no intention of leaving her mother's womb!
After several visits to the hospital, they ended up provoking birth. It was both a great relief and a great stress because she knew that the serious things were about to begin!
As for me, my feelings were the same: I couldn't wait for my little girl to arrive but at the same time I was stressed to know that my daughter was in pain! Even though it’s the most natural thing ever, we know it’s no pleasure cruise!
Needless to say, I only slept with one eye! I scanned my cell phone every hour to see if I had received a message! Then at 3:30 in the morning, when the first photos arrived, I gave a big "phew" of relief.
Everything had gone well, and mom and baby were doing great! Seeing my little girl's face filled me with joy even if it was only through a cell phone. I had to wait 2 days for them to be out of the hospital to be able to hold her in my arms, as visits are still prohibited due to COVID!
When you hold this little cutie in your arms, it's like an extension of yourself! To think that it is the flesh of your flesh is almost a miracle. And here I am just as gaga as when I had my daughters!
It immersed me thirty years ago, I can barely look away from her beautiful little face. When my daughters were babies, I could contemplate them for hours, so amazed I had given birth to such beautiful dolls!
The ball of comparisons has begun:
- She is the spitting image of her father!
- Oh no, this is the portrait of her mother when she was little! - Oh! She has her grandfather's mouth! …
And of course, I'm right when I say that she is alike my daughter like two peas in a pod!! Ah, Ah, Ah!! No just kidding! I especially like to tease Benjamin, my son-in-law, by telling him that! Between us, what matters is that she is in good health and anyway the mixture of the two could only be a success!**
My friend told me: "You'll see, it's great to be a grandmother! It’s the joy of having the kids part-time and without the worries of education!”. It would almost make you appreciate the fact that you are getting old!
** You will find in the “Vocabulary” part how to compare and speak about resemblance in French ;-)
