The "Agile Rabbit" cabaret
This famous cabaret "The Agile Rabbit" is a real institution! The bohemian population has frequented this place for generations! Located right in front of the vineyards, writers, musicians, painters, and sculptors who were then unknown gathered here.
These "strangers" were Picasso, Modigliani, Utrillo, Guillaume Apollinaire, and many others! In 1950, Claude Nougaro gave his first concerts there.
Why is it called "The Agile Rabbit"?
In 1880, the owner asked the cartoonist André Gill to design a new sign for the cabaret. So, he decides to draw a rabbit escaping from a pot. The brand was a real success, so much so that the cabaret was quickly nicknamed the "Gill Rabbit" after its creator. This little name takes so well that the place ends up being officially called Le Lapin Agile.
Even today, the Lapin Agile offers evening entertainment in the tradition of cabaret. This is an essential stopover for curious people who want to venture a little further than Place du Tertre and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart when visiting Montmartre.
