Hello everyone and welcome to Easy French With Us,
The question that comes up most often among my immersion students is "how to learn French quickly or easily?" ". Indeed for many of my English-speaking students, French is a beautiful and captivating language, but can be difficult to learn. So many rules, exceptions, idioms and so on. But, with the right approach, it is possible to learn French quickly and effectively. So I decided today to make you a little podcast to give you some tips to help you achieve your goal.
Of course, you have to know that each person learns differently. Some have a rather visual memory, others rather an hearing memory and finally there are those who have a rather logical memory (once they have understood the logic, it remains imprinted in their brain). Personally I'm a bit of a mix of the last two. But either way, there are a few techniques that will come in handy regardless of your memory type.
Grammar
You have certainly noticed, French contains tons of complex rules so if your goal is to speak correctly you must obviously study French grammar. It can sometimes be boring or intimidating but take the time to understand the different verb tenses, conjugation rules, adjectives, adverbs etc. And for those who need to understand to remember, it's a bit essential!
Immerse yourself
Of course, another technique that for me is very effective is to immerse yourself in French culture. Watch French films, listen to French music, read French books and newspapers. This will help you understand the nuances of the language and become familiar with idioms.
Practice!
Do not forget to practice your French every day: Practice is essential to improve your language skills. Try to speak French as much as possible, even if only with yourself. For example, you can say aloud what you are doing when you are doing it. "I get up, I have my coffee, I wash my hair, I go shopping, I prepare lunch, I bake a cake...". You can also find a conversation partner or a teacher to help you practice. I know that there are quite a few meetups bringing together French learners on certain occasions. I advise you to choose well according to your level. Join groups of the same level as yours or even of a higher level, it will allow you to evolve.
A French immersion in France.
And if there is a technique that is very effective, it is to stay in France. Nothing beats complete immersion in French culture and language. If possible, plan a stay in France to improve your French significantly. You will practice your French every day, you will discover a new culture each time you go to a different region, you will meet new people while enjoying an extraordinary holiday.
Repeat, repeat and repeat!
In any case, the key is repetition! Practice every day, don't just watch a movie once in a while or do grammar exercises once a week. Take it as a physical activity, practice a little bit each day.
In short, I know that learning French quickly for English speakers can be a challenge, but it is quite achievable with a consistent and determined approach. So I wish you a lot of courage and I look forward to discovering your progress.
See you soon in a next podcast! 😉
